Arden Cho has only appeared in a handful of episodes, but has managed to leave a sizable impact thanks to her strong performance and the stellar Chicago Med writing.

Cho made her Med debut in season 3 but has not appeared since, so the big question on everybody’s mind is whether she will ever return.

Here’s what you need to know about Cho and her character.

What happened to Emily Choi on Chicago Med?

Cho plays Emily Choi, the sister of Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee). She was adopted by the Choi family from a young age, and her vice for semi-professional gambling put her at odds with Ethan from an early age. In the episode “Born This Way”, Ethan decides to pay a visit to Emily at random, in the hopes of rekindling their relationship.

Eventually, the two get to know each other better. Emily meets Ethan’s fiance, April Sexton (Nia DaCosta), and the step siblings even dance together in the episode “Best Laid Plans”. Things take a turn for the dramatic, however, when Emily shows up to Ethan’s house with the news that she’s been evicted for not paying rent.

Ethan reluctantly agrees to let her stay at his house, and despite breaking her promise to not have people over, Emily remains there. To further strengthen the bonds between them, Emily begins to volunteer at the Gaffney Medical Center and work alongside Ethan.

Sadly, Emily is accused stealing Percocet from the ED’s medicine cabinet, and because Ethan fails to back her up, she uproots and moves to Las Vegas. The last time we see Emily is in the episode “The Tipping Point”, when Ethan finds sleeping at a homeless camp. He takes her in for treatment and discovers that she contracted hepatitis A. It turns out she lied about moving to Vegas, but she is able to recover and receive treatment for her illness.

Ethan has had to contend with physical issues of his own in recent seasons, but the door remains open for Emily to return should she ever factor into his life. Given how complicated their dynamic has been over the years, we certainly hope that they reach a point of parity.
