We wouldn’t go as far as to label Severide (Taylor Kinney), Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), and Seager (Andy Allo) a love triangle, but it definitely has the potential to yield some drama.

Severide has grown closer to Seager and further from Kidd in the time that the latter has been gone, and the misunderstandings that could come about as a result of this dynamic could spell trouble for Stellaride’s planned wedding.

Chicago Fire is still a week from returning, but the details regarding the upcoming episode, “Fire Cop”, suggest that there’s going to be more Severide and Seager quality time than ever.

Seager is set to return to Chicago Fire season 10

The premise for the episode reads as follows:

"Severide and Seager team up to investigate a fire at the home of a troubled young woman; Pelham moves into 51’s rumoured cursed office; Kylie assists Kidd with Girls on Fire."

The decision to reunite Severide and Seager is particularly interesting, given that the last episode saw Severide and Kidd make their engagement official with rings. The couple should be as close as ever, but the possibility of there still being emotional distance is something that fans are picking up on.

One Reddit user theorized that Seager is meant to double as a sort of work wife/confidant for Severide, who has historically struggled to discuss his feelings.

“Severide needs someone who is around his age/rank to talk/vent things out with”, they wrote. “He can’t talk about his problems with Kidd with Kidd. Because, otherwise, he just seems like a lost character with no real plot lines, except for those big fire scenes or Kidd scenes.”

Other decried the return of Seager so soon, believing that the character is trying to split up the Stellaride engagement because she’s developed her own feelings for Severide. Whatever the case, it will come into play during the second half of season 10.

The decision to bring back Kidd’s involvement with the Girls on Fire program is interesting, since it was her commitment to the program that initially led her to create distance (both figuratively and literally) between her and Severide.

Fire showrunner Derek Haas has confirmed that the road to recovery for Stellaride is going to be tough, so hurdles like Seager, and the possible feelings that Seager could inspire, are par for the course. If the couple are to get back to the bond they once had, they’re going to have to navigate every challenge that comes their way.
