We all love the Halstead brothers. Whether you prefer the easygoing Will (Nick Gehlfuss) or the stoic Jay (Jesse Lee Soffer), there are fireworks whenever the onscreen siblings cross paths in the One Chicago universe.

Fortunately, plans for a Halstead brothers reunion is already underway. Details are scarce, but the Chicago Med showrunners have confirmed that we will see these beloved characters collaborate before the end of season 7.

Here’s what you need to know about the reunion.

Jay and Will Halstead episodes

During a recent interview with TV Line, Med showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov said that an upcoming plot will feature a pivotal guest appearance from Chicago PD veteran Jay. “There are definitely plans to reunite the Halstead brothers”, they confirmed.

This lines up with previous comments from the showrunners, who stated that there were no plans for a crossover between all three One Chicago shows. There were initially, but the COVID pandemic led them to be shelved for the indefinite future. What fans will get, however, is a series of smaller crossovers between two shows at a time.

This has already happened several times during the current TV season. Chicago PD‘s Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) made a cameo on Chicago Fire, and Med’s own Dr. Scott (Guy Lockard) dropped by the latest episode of Chicago PD. Fittingly, Scott had a brief interaction with Jay Halstead’s fiance, Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).

While it’s unclear why the Halstead brothers will get together, it’s tough to ignore the fact that Jay is engaged to be married in the near future. Will is likely to appear as the best man (or at least as a groomsman) in the wedding, whenever it may be.

Given the issues that Jay Halstead and Upton are still wading through, however, we can assume that the upcoming crossover will be more case-based than personal. The wedding is likely to be pushed back until the end of the season, or perhaps even next season.
