Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) has had quite the arc in season 10. She took time away from Firehouse 51 to promote the Girls on Fire program, and her lack of communication cost her the lieutenant job.

Kidd has acclimated to life under the new lieutenant, Jason Pelham (Brett Dalton), but there’s still a nagging desire to rise above her current rank and lead the 51. So does she get the job, and if so, what becomes of Pelham?

Here’s what you need to know about Kidd and her future on Chicago Fire.

Does Kidd get promoted on Chicago Fire?

The episode “Fire Cop” really brough Kidd’s desires to the forefront. It’s here that she has a chat with her Girls on Fire protégé, Kylie Estevez (Katelynn Shennett), who encourages her to go after the lieutenant job once more. Kidd is hesitant, but she ultimately agrees that her dream is to lead the firehouse she’s served for so long.

There have been tons of clues to suggest her dream will come true. For one, all signs point to the Pelham character leaving the show before the end of the season. Brett Dalton has announced his plans to begin filming a series in New York over social media, and his character is conspicuously absent from the synopses of future Chicago Fire episodes.

Fans got a concrete answer in the new episode, “An Officer with Grit”. Kidd considers moving over to firehouse 72 in order to become a lieutenant, but she hesitates because a different firehouse means different hours and less time with Severide (Taylor Kinney).

Thankfully, a solution was reached that satisfied all parties. Pelham decided to take the job at the other firehouse, meaning Kidd can stay and lead the 51 alongside her fiance. It’s a perfect solution to a problem that was getting increasingly tough to gauge, especially as we all warmed up to the character of Pelham.

After a long, unorthodox path, Kidd is finally a lieutenant of Firehouse 51.
