Chicago PD has not taken it easy on its characters this season. The characters have been through emotional trauma, professional crises, and some have nearly died while in the line of fire. It’s been endlessly entertaining for fans, but it also raises the question as to whether certain characters will be written out.

The show has had plenty of high-profile exits over the years, and they have teased the possible quitting of several officers so far. But which ones are actually leaving? Who will walk in 2022?

Here’s what you need to know about the current cast of Chicago PD.

Is someone leaving Chicago PD?

Due to the subplot involving a cover up and a federal bribe, there was brief stint during season 9 where it seemed like Voight (Jason Beghe) and/or Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) were going down. It caused a rift between the two men, to the point of getting physical with each other, and some fans theorized that one of them would take the blame to save the other.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you feel about the tactics, Halstead agreed to bribe a federal officer to ensure that both he and Voight are safe. There was some reluctance to go the corrupted, Voight way, but it ultimately worked. Afterward, Halstead insisted that Voight be more communicative with him, and the superior officer agreed.

The latest officer to flirt with the idea of leaving is Ruzek (Patrick Flueger). He already reconsidered the merits of policing earlier in the season, when his mentor was discovered to be corrupt, but the recent kidnapping of Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams) is what pushed him over the edge. He was in rare form, berating and threatening suspects, as well as violating agreed upon plans with the rest of the team.

In the end, he was lucky enough to recover Makayla, but the obvious problems with discipline he showed were cause for alarm. Voight warned him about his behavior twice, and even went as far as to say he would take him off the case. Ruzek’s volatile actions also caused some tension with Burgess (Marina Squerciati), who preferred a by-the-book method of recovering her daughter.

The episode in which this occurs, “Gone”, sees Ruzek remove himself from an intimate family moment with Burgess and Makayla. It’s a sad moment, and it speaks to the conflict he feels within himself regarding his profession and his personal desire.

There are no plans for the character to leave the show, however, and all signs point to the arc being little more than an example of how difficult it can be to follow the rules when you’re personally involved with a case.

In short, there are no major plans for cast members to exit in 2022, which means fans can simply sit back and enjoy the drama that’s still to come.
