When is Brett coming back to Chicago Fire?
Brett (Kara Killmer) has left Chicago Fire. Well, at least for a bit. The character has been struggling since the departure of Casey (Jesse Spencer) earlier this season, and decided to take some time off work to go visit him in Portland.
The decision was introduced and executed very quickly, and her exit took place offscreen, making her absence in the episode “Hot and Fast” that much more of a bummer. The question has now shifted from will Brett leave to when she will come back…

Did Sylvie Brett leaving Chicago Fire?
Don’t worry, Brett won’t be gone for long. The character has become a staple at the 51, and there are several clues that hint at the fact that she will return. For one, her aforementioned exit. For a character so beloved to leave without having an emotional goodbye would be a baffling choice, and one that would tick off more than a few fans.
Brett is also the sole link to the Brettsy romance that fans are still hoping ends in marriage. Derek Haas, Chicago Fire showrunner, has repeatedly said that he plans to keep their relationship going despite Casey’s absence. He’s pointed to technology and other various means of communication, explaining that both characters are committed to keeping things going long distance.

If Brett were to leave the show indefinitely, it would cut the romance lose from the main crux of the show. Furthermore, Haas has flirted with the idea of bringing Casey back, at least in a cameo role, so the notion of him coming back without Brett in the mix feels all wrong. Especially, if the rumors are to be believed, when Casey returns for the Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Severide (Taylor Kinney) wedding.
As it stands, Brett will likely return before the end of season 10. There’s still a handful of episodes to go before the finale, and it would be absolutely wonderful to see her come back with Casey to celebrate the Stellaride wedding. Haas and the cast have remained quiet on what will go down during the finale, but we’re confident that Brett will play a role in it, one way or another.
