Chicago Fire boss would be ‘mortified’ if Casey didn’t return for Severide’s wedding
By Cody Schultz
When the time comes for Severide and Kidd to finally exchange their I Do’s on Chicago Fire, there are a handful of characters fans are hoping to see on the guest list but none more than Severide’s longtime pal and Kidd’s former Captain, Matt Casey.
Over the years, Severide and Casey’s relationship evolved into one of the show’s most beloved friendships and it’s a dynamic that fans have been missing ever since Casey left town to move to Oregon to foster Ben and Griffin Darden.
Given the friendship they share, it’s long been an assumption among fans that Severide would ask Casey to stand alongside him on his wedding day as the Best Man at his wedding. Even if Severide was to choose someone else to be his Best Man, we can’t imagine Casey missing his best friend’s wedding and it seems we’re not the only ones.
Will Casey return to Chicago Fire for Severide’s wedding?
Although Jesse Spencer has not yet announced his plans to return, it does appear the powers that be are optimistic Spencer will return as Casey for Severide’s wedding. In fact, the man behind the show we all know and love has admitted he’d be mortified if Spencer weren’t to return for Severide’s big day.
In an interview with Variety, Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas candidly confessed that he “would be mortified if there was a wedding that didn’t include Casey.”

While he didn’t directly confirm whether there have been active conversations with Spencer about his return, his comments seem to suggest the creative team is optimistic about Casey’s presence at the upcoming Stellaride wedding.
Considering Spencer left on good terms, the odds of Haas and company persuading Spencer to return in time for Severide’s wedding are looking good. Given that Haas has shared that they’re planning for a wedding episode this season, we could see Spencer make his way back to the show before the season ends which definitely seems like a reason to celebrate!
