You may not remember the character of Franco Chavaro. He appeared in the Chicago PD episode “Doubt”, which aired during season 7. Chavaro owned the gun that killed mayoral candidate Brian Kelton (John C. McGinley), and is therefore put in the hot seat throughout much of the episode.

Chavaro has not returned to the show since this episode, but the introduction of a new character, Dante Torres, may have some fans combing through their memory banks to determine why he is so familiar.

Learn more about Chavaro and the connection he has to newcomer Torres, here.

Who does Benjamin Levy Aguilar play on Chicago PD?

Chavaro and Torres are the same person. Well, technically. Both characters are played by actor Benjamin Levy Aguilar, despite them not sharing any backstory or connection.

Granted, Chicago PD has employed different recasting strategies before. Dora Madison Burge played the character of Jellybean, but once she was killed off, she returned to play Jellybean’s twin sister Chili. The stunt of making them twins went a long way in explaining the similarity, as well as the subtle changes made in Burge’s appearance.

The showrunners did not attempt any such thing with Aguilar. He appears virtually the same in both roles, and based on the little bit of information we’ve been able to gleam, there’s no bond between the two characters. It appears that the casting team simply liked Aguilar and dropped him back into the world of One Chicago without being concerned with the continuity confusion.

This is another thing that Chicago PD has established a precedent for. While rarely discussed, actor Kurt Naebig played Lt. Bruce Belden in the first season of the procedural drama and then came back to play a completely different character in season 9.
