Chicago Fire: Are Casey and Brett going to break up?
Chicago Fire has some major revelations saved for the season 10 finale. We will get to see the return of Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Brett (Sylvie Brett) after the former left for Oregon and the latter took time off work to visit him.
There’s been lots of speculation about the future of their relationship, especially when you consider that Casey is going to be spending the next several years away from the firehouse. Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman shed light on the couple’s status during a recent interview with Variety.
Here’s what you need to know.
Casey and Brett are going to struggle in the season 10 finale
The prospect of Casey and Brett returning for the wedding of Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) is an exciting one for fans, given the history between all of them, but it also brings about some internal issues.
Newman told the outlet that seeing Stellaride get married is going to bring about some tough conversations for Casey and Brett. Especially when you consider that they are going to have to part again right after the wedding.
"“They come back in after having been together for a week when Brett was visiting but they know that now they have to say goodbye again for an undetermined amount of time”, the showrunner noted. That’s weighing heavily on them. When you go to a wedding with anybody, it brings up all those sorts of questions about your own future and your relationships. So they’re definitely going to be struggling with that.”"

This isn’t the first time that people behind the scenes have hinted at a change of pace for Brett. It was recently confirmed that the character would be coming back full-time to the firehouse, which is in direct opposition to Casey, who will disappear again following the wedding.
Newman’s showrunner partner, Derek Haas, teased a potential romance between Brett and Todd Graham (Brandon Prado), who will be playing a larger role in season 11. This will be shocking if it turns out to be true, but it does make sense given the need to generate new storylines for Brett as she adjusts to life post-Casey.
Regardless of whether Brett pursues Graham or decides to be single for a while, it does sound like her and Casey are headed for the end of their relationship.
