Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Severide (Taylor Kinney) are the focal point of the upcoming Chicago Fire finale. There’s been countless theories on what will happen between the couple, and whether they will follow through with their planned wedding.

As Stella and Severide struggle to make sense of their current dynamic, their impending wedding raises other questions– namely, will they be having kids at some point? Could the couple raise a firefighting dynasty in the Windy City?

Fire showrunner Andrea Newman shed light on the possibility of Stella getting pregnant in the near future.

Will Stella and Severide have kids on Chicago Fire?

Newman, who co-runs the show with Derek Haas, told TV Line that kids are not in the immediate future for either Kidd or Severide. She made it clear that the couple still have plenty of growing to do before they decide to bring other lives into the world.

"“They’re not yet emotionally at that point”, she explained. “I think they’re still like, ‘Can we do this? Or is this going to be a disaster that blows up this fantastic relationship we have?'”"

The rhetorical questions don’t stop there. Based on the different romantic issues that Stella and Severide have encountered in the past, there’s going to need to be lots of growth for both of them. Newman suggests that, ideally, they will be able to help each other grow into fuller people.

"“For Kidd, she had this really abusive first marriage, and for Severide, he had this model of relationship with Benny and his mom that was pretty abusive in its own way”, Newman added. “Marriage itself is a huge leap into the dark for them, so they’re both still turning that one over and over and struggling with that.”"

Lots of baggage, most of which we’ve gotten see over the course of Chicago Fire‘s ten seasons. It makes sense that Stella and Severide would be reflecting on their past right before they wed, and it’ll be interesting to see how much their reflection leads them to make (potentially) rash decisions.

One thing’s for sure: there won’t be little Severides running around next season.
