Chicago Med cast: Breaking down who plays every key character (2023)

It’s been quite an interesting few years for NBC’s veteran One Chicago medical drama, in fact, it’s safe to say Chicago Med season 8 was been one of the craziest seasons in the show’s history when it came to casting shakeups.
The season saw three series regulars depart the cast, another longtime cast member miss several episodes (leaving many to question if they had left the show) and the introduction of several incredible new characters who injected a lot of fresh blood into the cast.
Because of the many casting changes, it can be a struggle to keep track of the cast which is where we come in! Below, we share an in-depth guide to Med‘s new and returning cast members.
Chicago Med cast
Nick Gelhfuss as Will Halstead
Dr. Will Halstead is played by actor Nick Gelhfuss. Gelhfuss originated the character on Chicago Fire‘s third season before moving over to Med as one of the show’s series regulars.
Dominic Rains as Crockett Marcel
Dr. Crockett Marcel is played by actor Dominic Rains, who joined the cast in season 5 following a recurring role on ABC’s Agents of SHIELD.
Marlyne Barrett as Maggie Lockwood
Nurse Maggie Lockwood is played by actress Marlyne Barrett, whose additional acting credits include HBO’s The Wire and NBC’s Kings.
S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin
Dr. Sharon Goodwin is played by actress S. Epatha Merkerson, an original member of the Chicago Med cast who previously starred in Dick Wolf’s hit drama Law and Order.

Oliver Platt as Daniel Charles
Dr. Daniel Charles is played by actor Oliver Platt, a veteran television actor who originated the role in season 1 and has remained as a series regular across each season of the show.
Steven Weber as Dean Archer
Dr. Dean Archer is played by Steven Weber, who first joined the show in a recurring role before being promoted to series regular in season 7.
Ivan Shaw as Justin Lieu
Dr. Justin Lieu on Chicago Med is played by actor Ivan Shaw. Before jumping into Chicago Med, Ivan took a turn on the popular messy drama The Cleaning Lady.
Jessy Schram as Hannah Asher
Dr. Hannah Asher on Chicago Med is played by actress Jessy Schram. Schram first joined the show in season 5 in a recurring role before stepping away in the season 6 premiere. After a brief time away from the show, Schram returned as Hannah at the end of season 7 before becoming a series regular in season 8.
Sasha Roiz as Jack Dayton
When Sasha Roiz joined the Chicago Med cast as Jack Dayton in season 8, it at first seemed like he would simply play a smaller role in the show. CEO of the Dayton Corporation, Jack was first introduced when Crockett helped save him in a subway accident. Soon after, he began helping Gaffney Chicago Medical Center before buying a controlling interest in the hospital in the fall finale.
Devin Kawaoka as Kai Tanaka-Reed and Conor Perkins as Zach Hudgins
Among the new faces introduced in Chicago Med season 8 were Devin Kawaoka and Conor Perkins as Kai Tanaka-Reed and Zach Hudgins, a pair of new first-year surgical residents.
