One Chicago has had no shortage of shocking exits. In fact, the franchise has built its name of keeping audiences guessing as to who will survive and who will perish. 2022 saw some major losses for PD, Fire, and Med, and 2023 is gearing up to deliver more of the same.

With that in mind, here’s a rundown of the character exits we anticipate happening over the next several months, and how they will affect the show they’re attached to. Furthermore, we’ll discuss whether said character plans on returning (fingers crossed they all do).

Let’s begin!

Did Cindy Herrmann leave Chicago Fire?

Cindy Herrmann (Robyn Coffin) has been one of the constants when it comes to Fire‘s supporting cast. She’s been there since the beginning, offering support and keeping the occasionally grumpy Herrmann (David Eigenberg) in check. So naturally, we were all very devastated to find out that she has lung cancer.

While Cindy’s diagnosis will undoubtedly lead to her being a crucial plot throughout the rest of season 11, the severity of his condition may head to her being absent from the screen for long chunks of time. She may not officially be gone, but her road to recovery will be such that we may only get bits and pieces of it through her husband.

Did Sean O’Neal leave Chicago PD?

Sean O’Neal (Jefferson White) is a character that works best in moderation. He’s chilling, but he can also overwhelm the plot if he’s used too frequently. We anticipate that we will see less of the character throughout season 11, to the extent that he may not even appear before the finale.

That being said, the popularity of the character, coupled with the strange dynamic he’s developed with Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), leads us to believe that we haven’t seen the last of Sean in the long term. There’s more to do with him, even if it’s going to be later on.

Did Kelly Severide leave Chicago Fire?

Severide is the big one we’re all waiting on. Taylor Kinney, who plays the veteran firefighter, has announced that he will be leaving Fire for a brief period of time to deal with a personal matter. He has not divulged the nature of the matter, but the fact that he will miss a significant chunk of the show leads us to believe it is serious.

Because of the hiatus that Fire is currently on, fans have had a lot of time to sit and speculate as to how Severide could be written out (we’ve done the same, as you can see here). It remains to be seen how the writers plan on doing it, but we can rest assured that this character will be back in the mix… eventually.
