Chicago PD will pay tribute to Alvin Olinksy in new episode
Who doesn’t love Alvin Olinksy (Elias Koteas)? The Chicago PD veteran cut corners when it came to legal procedure, but he was loyal and he always did what he thought was just and fair. His death in season 5 was devastating, and left both fans and characters reeling.
It’s been a long time since we’ve gotten to see Olinksy, but PD has made a point of keeping his memory alive through his peers. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), for one, has never fully gotten over the death of his friend, and the various losses he’s dealt with dealt with over the years seem to function as a reminder.
Olinksy is going to be a vital part in PD‘s latest episode. Find out how right here.
The promo photos for the episode suggest a very somber tone. Voight is tasked with helping ASA Nina Chapman (Sara Bues) after her longtime informant disappears, and the case results in a few major discoveries being made about Chapman herself.

Voight is seen comforting a distraught Chapman at a cemetery, but the real bombshell comes when the former is seen visiting the grave of Olinksy. It’s a haunting image, given all the history the two men shared, and it speaks to the unresolved feelings of guilt that Voight still has over Olinksy’s death.
The promo photos also suggest that Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) is with Voight at the cemetery, which is fitting given the mentor-student dynamic he had with Olinksy early on.
The decision to make Olinksy such a prominent footnote in the episode feels especially notable because Chicago PD is coming up on its 200th episode. It’s a huge milestone, and one that will invariably have references and callbacks to the ten years that have preceded it.
Since Olinksy was such a big part of the show’s initial run, it seems only right that he would get a tip of the cap in the lead up.
