Chicago Fire: 3 things we DON’T want to see when Severide leaves
Chicago Fire has the unenviable task of writing out a main character: Severide (Taylor Kinney). While the character will be back, eventually, the uncertain nature of the actor’s schedule means that there will need to be a convincing reason that removes him from the storyline without doing permanent damage.
It’s not going to be easy, as evidenced by the polarizing response that a similar situation has gotten on Chicago PD with Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). There are lots of different directions that the writers could go in Severide’s absence, but we feel like some should be avoided at all costs.
Here’s a rundown of the three storylines we absolutely DON’T want to see in season 11.
Will Severide and Kidd get divorced on Chicago Fire?
Let’s avoid divorce if we can. Divorce has claimed a ton of marriages on One Chicago over the years, mostly due to characters leaving and writers having no choice but to end the marriages they have with characters who remain on the show.
Severide and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) don’t have a perfect marriage, but given how fresh it is, and how much screen time has been dedicated to getting them to the altar, it would be a shame to see things end in divorce. Things are strained between them at the moment, and we hope the fact that Severide will be gone will make them realize what’s truly important at the end of the day.
Will Kidd and Carver have an affair on Chicago Fire?
This is a theory that has gained traction with One Chicago fans for a couple reasons. One, Kidd and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) have really bonded in recent episodes, after having a very intense dislike for one another. Two, Fire showrunner Andrea Newman has confirmed that Carver will be having a romance with a character we already know…

Of course, the chances that its Kidd are mercifully slim. We’re skeptical that the writers would go this route, especially given how much Severide is liked and how unflattering a light it would cast on Kidd. Since Carver is someone that is presumably going to be around for a long time, making him a homewrecker also feels like it would be a tactical mistake.
Will Severide move away on Chicago Fire?
A character moving out of the Windy City is usually a bad sign. Few have done it and remained a core part of the show, so we hope that whatever reason Severide gives for stepping away, it isn’t this.
It would be more believable if he had to go out of town to tend to a family matter, or maybe even visit an established character like Casey (Jesse Spencer), but to pack up and move away from a spouse is a bad look, as proven by Halstead’s actions on Chicago PD.
