We asked AI who the best Chicago Fire character is (and its answer is spot on)
By Cody Schultz
Across its eleven seasons, Chicago Fire has introduced audiences to some truly amazing characters. In fact, it seems fair to say that the show would never have been as big of a success as it has become if not for the loveable characters who make up the show’s core cast.
From those who have been a part of the 51 family from the very beginning to those who have joined the series as the years have gone by, each character has become an integral piece of the puzzle and shaped the show into what it has become.
Of course, like with any show, there will always be standout characters, and with a large ensemble, fans are always going to have their favorite characters. Characters who fans can’t imagine the show without and who they’ll always go to bat for, regardless of what actions their characters might be taking in a given story arc or episode.
When one looks at the many characters who have come and gone over the years on Chicago Fire, there are arguments to be had for why each is worthy of the title of being the best character on the show. Well, at least for 90% of the characters because there have been some truly awful characters over the years too who were introduced as foils for the team at Firehouse 51.
Who is the best Chicago Fire character? (According to AI)
Every Chicago Fire fan has their favorite characters and an idea of who they’d consider to be the best character, but who is the best overall character according to AI? We decided to ask this very question to ChatGPT’s AI and it was not at all surprising to see Matt Casey selected as the best Chicago Fire character. Here’s what ChatGPT had to say:
"There’s no question in my mind that Lieutenant Matthew Casey is the best character on the show. He’s a natural-born leader, fiercely dedicated to his job and his fellow firefighters, and he always puts his heart and soul into everything he does. From his early days as a firefighter to his current position as a respected officer, Casey has proven time and time again that he has what it takes to handle even the most difficult situations. He’s tough when he needs to be, but also compassionate and empathetic, especially when it comes to his team members and those they serve. And let’s not forget about his love life – his on-again, off-again relationships had us all on the edge of our seats for seasons! Casey is just an all-around amazing character, and I can’t imagine the show without him."
It’s not surprising at all that AI selected Matt Casey as its pick for the best Chicago Fire character, especially when you consider Casey has been a crucial part of the show from the very beginning. Sure, he no longer is around in the same capacity that he once was, but just look at the excitement that has come with each of his returns since his departure!
Across the show, Casey has always been a constant for fans and one of the 51’s most respected and beloved leaders. As AI pointed out, he’s tough when he needs to be, but also compassionate and empathetic, especially when it comes to his team members and those they serve.

It doesn’t hurt that Casey has been part of two of the show’s most popular and beloved ships, first through his relationship with Gabby and later in his relationship with Sylvie. And he’s also been at the core of many of the show’s key storylines over the years, storylines that brought fans unforgettable moments such as his feud with Voight pre-Chicago PD era, his run as an alderman fighting for change, and even his recent storyline with the Darden brothers.
The impact Casey has had on the show is unmeasurable and his impact will continue to be felt throughout the show’s run, regardless of whether he’s around full time or not.
