Chicago Fire is coming up on another season finale, and we couldn’t be more excited. There’s lots we don’t know about the finale, like whether Severide (Taylor Kinney) will make his return, but we have gotten some crucial details regarding the plot and the potential return of a major character…

The plot details were officially released by NBC in the form of a synopsis, but the character stuff was obtained by photos that were taken on the set of the firefighting drama. They don’t exactly confirm that said character will be in the finale, but it’s certainly a good indicator.

Is Casey coming back to Chicago Fire season 11?

The character in question is Matt Casey. That’s right, weeks after making his triumphant cameo appearance, actor Jesse Spencer was photographed standing next to Miranda Rae Mayo and other cast/crew members during the shoot for the season 11 finale.

The photos were posted on the Brettsey Daily Twitter account, and hint at some major changes for both Casey and the woman he used to date, Brett (Kara Killmer). There will most certainly be scenes between the ex-lovers, based on their interactions in the episode “Danger Is All Around”, and the aforementioned plot details reveal that Brett will be given “life-changing news.”

Will the life-changing news be tied to Casey? Will they try to rekindle their romance? Some fans think that Brett will go as far as to leave the 51 altogether to be with Casey, which is definitely on the table given how obvious their feelings for each other still are.

Spencer was grilled on the possibility of his returning when he did press for “Danger Is All Around” and he maintained that he was willing to do so if the story made sense. He also made it clear that he doesn’t know how things will end up for his character, and he prefers it that way.

“The good thing is I don’t know, and I kind of like that,” he told TV Line. “I like that not knowing thing, if that’s actually a possibility in the future.”

Concrete answers will likely elude us until the finale airs, but the photos of Spencer back in the mix are more than enough to get us excited.
