3. Benny Severide, Chicago Fire

Benny Severide (Treat Williams) is the original One Chicago problem parent and the very example of what we’re talking about when we point to how fathers in this fandom need work. Benny may be a living legend in the Chicago Fire Department, but based on his Chicago Fire appearances, his former glory doesn’t excuse his indiscretions.

He’s the kind of character you want to slap, and surely his son Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) has thought about it a time or two. Benny not only behaves badly himself but thinks he knows better than a lot of people, particularly his son.

We’ve seen him be a true cad, who likes a few drinks, seems to flit around with various women, and fathered a half-sister that Kelly never even knew about. He’s a walking cautionary tale to his son, up to and including the fact that Benny walked out on Kelly and his mother Jennifer Sheridan (Kim Delaney) when Kelly was just in elementary school.

But beyond that, Benny Severide seemed to delight in causing problems for his son and other One Chicago characters. Ramon Dawson is a pain, but he’s not spiteful. Benny had no problem giving Kelly a piece of his mind.
