How old is Sharon Goodwin on Chicago Med?

Dr. Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) is the resident veteran on Chicago Med (no pun intended). She’s held down the position for the duration of the show, and she’s always on hand when one of her staffers needs advice or encouragement.

We know that Goodwin started her medical career as an Emergency Department charge nurse, which is a role currently being occupied by Maggie (Marlyne Barrett). She worked her way up the ranks to become the Executive Director of Patient and Medical Services, which is a role she had when Med started in 2015.

We also know that Goodwin celebrated her 32nd wedding anniversary during the first season. If we use the logic of a character being the exact same age as the actor who plays them, then the good doctor was born November 28, 1952. This means Goodwin was 63 when Med premiered.

Generally, the rule of thumb is that an actor and character are the same age unless otherwise is said. One Chicago is a franchise with a fair share of age discrepancies, especially when you look at the Halstead brothers, but the writers generally adhere to the same age rule.

Nothing has ever been specifically stated about Goodwin’s age in the show, so the assumption that her and Merkerson share a birthday is a safe one. The latter is currently 70, which means the former will be turning 71 during the upcoming season of Chicago Med.
