We usually know a little of what to expect in the new season of Chicago Med by now. Is this a sign that Chicago Med season 9 isn’t happening?
July is usually when our favorite One Chicago shows start filming. That means we get a few teases of what to expect. That’s not the case this year.
It all started with the writers strike, and now the actors have gone on strike. Hollywood has pretty much shut down, and that includes the TV industry. Until the strike action is over, the shows aren’t going to film, and it has us very concerned for our favorites.
This is going to be costly for the networks. Could the networks end up canceling shows despite initially renewing them?

Is Chicago Med canceled after season 8?
As of right now, NBC still plans on bringing Chicago Med season 9 to our screens. The show was renewed back in April 2023, and there are no signs of the network changing its mind. It wouldn’t make sense for NBC to cancel this show. It is one of the top-rated shows on the network, along with all of Dick Wolf’s programming.
There were some cost-cutting measures for the series, though. We weren’t going to see all the characters in every episode, and we were also going to see a small cut in the total number of episodes. That could all change now as the episode count is sure to be reduced anyway. We’re not likely getting the ninth season until January 2024 at the earliest, which means 18 to 20 episodes isn’t going to be possible if NBC wants to wrap the seasons by May. We could see all scripted shows cut to around 13 episodes across the board.
It’s something that we’ll be keeping a close eye on. For now, don’t worry about your favorite medical drama, though. Chicago Med season 9 is still happening.
