Antonio Dawson is a certified Chicago PD hall of famer. He was a vital part of the show for years, and it sad to see him go, even if it was to kickstart the short-lived spin-off Chicago Justice. He was a character who helped us to get into PD in the first place, and it definitely took a while to get used to the show without him.

Here’s the thing, though: Dawson is alive and well. He left the IU on his own volition, and we can assume that he landed on his feet doing something else in Puerto Rico. Since he is alive and well, though, is there a chance he could return to the Windy City in season 11?

Is Dawson coming back to Chicago PD season 11?

The door is definitely open. Seda has remained friendly with the cast and crew of Chicago PD, and even made a few jokes online about staging a crossover between PD and his other NBC show, La Brea. It would be exciting to see an episode in which Dawson’s police experience comes in handy, and he’s able to help his old friends sort out a case (whether it be new or old).

For a long time, scheduling was the clear reason why Seda couldn’t make a substantial return to PD. Seda was one of the stars of La Brea, which shot most of its scenes in Melbourne, Australia. While the Melbourne location may have been good for an IG reunion with Chicago Fire star Jesse Spencer, it isn’t good for shooting an episode of TV in Chicago.

Seda’s schedule may have opened up since La Brea was cancelled by NBC, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be coming back to reprise his PD character anytime soon. The main reasons? Time passing and limited episode count.

Antonio Dawson is someone who hasn’t been around for five seasons, so there could be a large contingency of fans who have joined the show and aren’t even familiar with the character. That’s not even getting into the fact that PD season 11 will be be significantly shorter than the average PD season due to the actors strike.

If the show struggled to incorporate Seda’s character in a 20 plus episode season, there’s no way the writers would bend over backwards to incorporate him with half that amount. We could see a cameo at some point down the line, but don’t expect it to be in 2024.
