Erin Lindsay may be gone, but she remains one of the most beloved characters in Chicago PD history. She went through a lot during her short time on the show, and the speculation over who was her real dad was something that sparked a lot of debate.

As some of you may recall, there was a pretty convincing theory floating around that her dad was actually the leader of the IU: Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). It was a pretty mind-blowing possibility, and one that gained traction due to the father-daughter dynamic they developed on the job.

Is Hank Voight really Erin Lindsay’s dad?

They were obviously close, and whether or not Voight was Lindsay’s real father, he basically played the role until she decided to leave the city. But what’s the truth? Well, at the risk of ruining such a fun theory, Voight is NOT Lindsay’s real dad. That distinction went to a character named Jimmy Sanguinetti (Tony Crane). Or at least, we thought it did.

Sanguinetti was an old fling of Lindsay’s mom, Barbara “Bunny” Fletcher (Markie Post), and an ex-convict. He was told that Lindsay was his daughter, but after Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) collected some DNA the detective discovered that this was not the case. Sanguinetti was heartbroken by the news, and suddenly felt as though Lindsay and Fletcher had been conning him. He told both women never to contact him again.

So if it’s not Sanguinetti, it could be Voight, right?! Not exactly. The actress who plays Lindsay, Sophia Bush, confirmed that the two PD characters were not actually related, and the scene that confirmed it was ultimately cut from an episode.

“There was a clarification about [Voight], that we filmed, but it didn’t make it into the episode,” she explained to One Chicago Center back in 2017, “and I was like, you guys are torturing me so bad—you made them think Voight could be Lindsay’s dad, and you didn’t let them see the resolution as to why he’s not.”

Unfortunately, Lindsay left the show before we could figure out the answer. We’ve ruled out two candidates who isn’t her real father, but it looks like the truth will never be fully revealed.
