Chicago PD: Will Burgess and Ruzek get married in season 11?

Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) have been through a lot. Seriously. The last two seasons of Chicago PD have been absolutely brutal for these two, as they’ve gone through the kidnapping of their daughter, psychological traumas, and nearly dying via gunshot. Burgess nearly bled out in the season 8 finale, and Ruzek was shown fighting for his life in the season 10 finale.

There has, however, been a silver lining. Amidst all the chaos, the two characters have gotten increasingly close. They initially rebuilt their relationship through co-parenting, the but the final episodes of season 10 suggested that something more serious, and more romantic, could be possible. Could we be getting a Burzek wedding ceremony when Chicago PD comes back for season 11?

Are Burgess and Ruzek dating on Chicago PD?

First, the obvious: Ruzek has to survive his gunshot wounds. We’re pretty confident that he will, given that the show recently lost Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), and the notion of doing away with another main character so soon after would be a serious detriment to the story. Plus, PD needs a central romance now that Halstead and Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) are on the rocks.

The couple are sprinting towards a separation due to the former being in another country, so we’d understand if the writers wanted to shift the relationship focus of the story to characters who are actually present. It opens up more possibilities, and resolves the issue that the show currently has, which is how to keep Halstead involved without having him actually be onscreen.

We’re not only alone in thinking a Burgess and Ruzek marriage is a good idea. The man who plays Atwater, LaRoyce Hawkins told Us Weekly that he would love to see the couple tie the knot after years of buildup. He even suggested Atwater being the one to marry them. “This is something a lot of people don’t know about me … I’m certified to marry people”, the actor said. “I consider Burgess and Ruzek to be family, and I think Atwater should get first right refusal to actually marry [them]. That’s what we wanna see.”

Whether or not a Burzek wedding is a major event like that of Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) in Chicago Fire, or more understated like that of Halstead and Upton in PD season 9, we think it’s a logical step with lots of exciting story possibilities for the future.
