5 Blue Bloods characters we'd love to see appear on Boston Blue

We've been thinking about which Blue Bloods characters it'd be fun to get updates on when Boston Blue premieres on CBS in the fall of 2025. Find out which 5 characters we'd love to see appear.
“Family Matters” – Danny and Baez investigate a case of grand larceny tied to feuding crime families when the gifts are stolen during a mob wedding. Also, Frank clashes with Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) when an influx of immigrants arrive in the city; Erin questions whether her district attorney campaign is compromising her day job; and Eddie enlists Jamie’s help to bust a drug dealer responsible for fentanyl overdoses in order to comfort a grieving grandfather (Larry Manetti), on BLUE BLOODS,

With Boston Blue due to bring back the character of Danny Reagan, fans of the original Blue Bloods series would love to see other characters from the original show make an appearance. This new show will follow Danny in what is called an “expansion” of the universe surrounding the series as he moves to Boston to work for the police department.

The series will follow Danny and a new law enforcement family: the Silver family. Lena Silver is his detective partner; her mother, Mae, is a District Attorney; her stepsister, Sarah, is the Superintendent of the Police Department; and her younger brother, Jonah, works as a rookie cop.

The roles within the family are similar to those of Danny’s family, who are likely still in New York, doing their own thing while going to weekly Sunday dinners. But who would we love to see make an appearance, whether family or someone Danny worked with? With no information yet on whether we will see any former cast members make an appearance, we have some ideas on who could guest star.

To be fair, we would love to see all of the characters come to Boston at some point or another. But these are just some of the characters who we’d love updates on, and who we’d love to see interact with the new characters that both audiences and Danny will meet.

Irish Exits
“Irish Exits” – Frank worries about his longtime friend Lenny Ross (Treat Williams) when he suspects the former officer is hiding his true reason for returning to the city. Also, Danny and Baez investigate when Baez and her daughter are targeted by a criminal Baez once put away; Eddie gives her partner, Badillo, relationship advice when his ex-girlfriend is physically attacked; and Anthony is sucked into the inner workings of an underground crime ring when his chaotic cousin, Joey, begs him for

1. Maria Baez

Baez was Danny’s long-time partner at the New York police department and was played by Marisa Ramirez. While there were hints of a relationship between the two of them by the end of the series, Danny being in Boston likely means they either decided to remain friends or are doing long distance. Plus, Baez had only recently adopted a baby girl, so she could also be busy in New York balancing her work life and motherhood.

We could get a mention of Maria at some point, especially if we get a random update from Danny. But fans would love to see her either get closure on their relationship or just see how she is doing in general.

"Ripple Effect" -- A medium approaches Danny and Baez claiming to know what happened to a woman who was found dead of an apparent suicide. Also, Jamie and Eddie help a woman who bought cheap insulin online that nearly killed her son; Frank goes against the wishes of the archbishop to take down a man he believes is laundering money from a charity; and Erin's ex-husband asks her for help with an assault and robbery case, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Feb. 1 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television | CB

2. Nicky Reagan-Boyle

Sami Gayle portrayed Danny’s niece, Nicky, who was the daughter of two lawyers, Erin Reagan and Jack Boyle. She had always been a popular character on the show, and even though there were times she was absent, it was still great to get updates on what she had been up to. There’s always a chance she could come to Boston for vacation and catch up with her uncle. Fans would love to know what she is up to and hear updates on how her parents’ reunion is faring, which was announced at the end of the series’s run.

Fire Drill
“Fire Drill” – Jamie partners with the FDNY to find the arsonist responsible for a massive fire at an NYPD evidence storage facility. Also, Danny and Baez feel the ripples of the storage facility fire when all the evidence against a cartel leader Danny brought to justice is destroyed; Anthony asks Erin to let him lead on a murder case when his friend is killed; and Eddie asks Frank to put her on modified duty following her divisive arrest of an anti-cop protestor at a rally, on BLUE BLOODS,

3. Eddie Janko-Reagan

Danny’s sister-in-law Eddie, married to his younger brother Jamie, has always been a favorite on the show. She could always come visit once she has the baby we learned she and Jamie were expecting in the Blue Bloods series finale. Whether Eddie comes on her own or with Jamie and baby in tow, there’s plenty we’d love to see from actress Vanessa Ray if she guest stars on Boston Blue.

"Family Secrets" -- After getting a match from an unknown relative from a DNA network, Sean Reagan does some detective work to figure out who this mystery person might be, and Frank gets a personal request from a woman, Paula Hill (Bonnie Sommerville), to transfer her son to a safer assignment. Also, Danny seeks to uncover the truth behind the murder of a key witness in one of Erin's cases, and Eddie begins to think about having a child after she and Jamie discover a newborn left outside their

4. Joe Hill

Joe Hill is Danny’s long-lost nephew and the son of his deceased brother, Joe. Will Hochman portrayed Joe beginning in season 10 of Blue Bloods and worked his way into becoming closer to the Reagan family as the years went by, despite not knowing them for most of his life. It would be fun to not only get an update on how he is doing, but also to see more of his growing bond with his Uncle Danny.

Forgive Us Our Trespasses
“Forgive Us Our Trespasses” – Danny and Baez team up with Danny’s old partner, Jackie Curatola (Jennifer Esposito), to find a copycat killer emulating murders from a previous case. Also, Frank and Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) battle over how best to handle the city’s rising homeless population; and Jamie, Eddie and Erin team up to build evidence against a previously released man who they believe is again committing criminal assault, on the 13th season finale of BLUE BLOODS, Friday, May 19

5. Frank Reagan

Tom Selleck has always been one of the major faces of Blue Bloods, so it would make sense at some point for Danny’s father to make an appearance. Plus, it would be great to see him get to know the new characters in Danny’s life and to see how his son is doing in his new surroundings. Hopefully, there will be a chance that Frank will be one of the many Reagan family members who will make an appearance on the series.

This certainly does not mean we wouldn’t want to see any of the other characters appear on Boston Blue. It may take time to get to see possible appearances while the new series gets its footing, but it’s fun to think about how to incorporate the Reagan family into this part of the universe.
