With Boston Blue due to bring back the character of Danny Reagan, fans of the original Blue Bloods series would love to see other characters from the original show make an appearance. This new show will follow Danny in what is called an “expansion” of the universe surrounding the series as he moves to Boston to work for the police department.
The series will follow Danny and a new law enforcement family: the Silver family. Lena Silver is his detective partner; her mother, Mae, is a District Attorney; her stepsister, Sarah, is the Superintendent of the Police Department; and her younger brother, Jonah, works as a rookie cop.
The roles within the family are similar to those of Danny’s family, who are likely still in New York, doing their own thing while going to weekly Sunday dinners. But who would we love to see make an appearance, whether family or someone Danny worked with? With no information yet on whether we will see any former cast members make an appearance, we have some ideas on who could guest star.
To be fair, we would love to see all of the characters come to Boston at some point or another. But these are just some of the characters who we’d love updates on, and who we’d love to see interact with the new characters that both audiences and Danny will meet.

1. Maria Baez
Baez was Danny’s long-time partner at the New York police department and was played by Marisa Ramirez. While there were hints of a relationship between the two of them by the end of the series, Danny being in Boston likely means they either decided to remain friends or are doing long distance. Plus, Baez had only recently adopted a baby girl, so she could also be busy in New York balancing her work life and motherhood.
We could get a mention of Maria at some point, especially if we get a random update from Danny. But fans would love to see her either get closure on their relationship or just see how she is doing in general.

2. Nicky Reagan-Boyle
Sami Gayle portrayed Danny’s niece, Nicky, who was the daughter of two lawyers, Erin Reagan and Jack Boyle. She had always been a popular character on the show, and even though there were times she was absent, it was still great to get updates on what she had been up to. There’s always a chance she could come to Boston for vacation and catch up with her uncle. Fans would love to know what she is up to and hear updates on how her parents’ reunion is faring, which was announced at the end of the series’s run.

3. Eddie Janko-Reagan
Danny’s sister-in-law Eddie, married to his younger brother Jamie, has always been a favorite on the show. She could always come visit once she has the baby we learned she and Jamie were expecting in the Blue Bloods series finale. Whether Eddie comes on her own or with Jamie and baby in tow, there’s plenty we’d love to see from actress Vanessa Ray if she guest stars on Boston Blue.

4. Joe Hill
Joe Hill is Danny’s long-lost nephew and the son of his deceased brother, Joe. Will Hochman portrayed Joe beginning in season 10 of Blue Bloods and worked his way into becoming closer to the Reagan family as the years went by, despite not knowing them for most of his life. It would be fun to not only get an update on how he is doing, but also to see more of his growing bond with his Uncle Danny.

5. Frank Reagan
Tom Selleck has always been one of the major faces of Blue Bloods, so it would make sense at some point for Danny’s father to make an appearance. Plus, it would be great to see him get to know the new characters in Danny’s life and to see how his son is doing in his new surroundings. Hopefully, there will be a chance that Frank will be one of the many Reagan family members who will make an appearance on the series.
This certainly does not mean we wouldn’t want to see any of the other characters appear on Boston Blue. It may take time to get to see possible appearances while the new series gets its footing, but it’s fun to think about how to incorporate the Reagan family into this part of the universe.
