Just days after the announcement that Maggie Lawson would be joining the cast of Donnie Wahlberg’s Boston Blue, we know who will play some key characters in the Silver family.
Gloria Reuben, who is best known for roles on ER, Mr. Robot, and The Equalizer, will be joining the series as Mae Silver, who is a District Attorney. Mau is the mother of Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green), who will be working with Danny Reagan as he joins the Boston police department.
Mae is a widow who lost her husband, who worked as a judge, when he was killed while outside the courthouse. Her main objective is to put her family first instead of strictly focusing on her job. Reuben is also no stranger to the Blue Bloods universe, having appeared in a season 11 episode of the original series before it ended in season 14.
Just after Reuben’s casting announcement, it was revealed that black-ish actor Marcus Scribner will also be joining the series. He will play Jonah Silver, who is Mae’s son, the youngest member of the Silver family, and works as a rookie cop.
Touted as an expansion of the Blue Bloods universe, the show will follow the Silver family, who make up a blended family that all work in various roles in law enforcement. The family also includes Lawson’s Sarah Silver, who is Lena’s stepsister. Sarah works as the Superintendent of the Police Department, while her sister is a detective.
Wahlberg will be joining the Boston-set police department after years of working alongside his own law enforcement family on Blue Bloods. While we are looking forward to finding out what brought him to Boston, we’re also excited to get to know a new cast of characters.
Ernie Hudson is also set to join the series as Reverend Edwin Peters, who portrays Lena’s grandfather.
There is no confirmation that we will see any characters from the original franchise, but fans are hoping to at least get to see Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan. Boston Blue is slated to air on CBS in the fall of 2025 on Fridays. It will be taking over the spot Blue Bloods held for fourteen seasons on the network.
Now that we have some more of the cast rounded out for the new series, we’re looking forward to finding out more about the series as news comes.
