Donnie Wahlberg has been busy bringing his new spinoff from Blue Bloods to life and now the synopsis has been released. Although the introduction to the Silver family does not provide much information that has not already been released, we do have a hint about his relationship with his son Sean, who will also be in Boston. Find out what we know so far about Boston Blue.
The pilot episode will introduce us to Danny Reagan’s new partner as he settles into life at the Boston Police Department. Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) also comes from a legacy family, with her mother, Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), working as the District Attorney. Mae’s father, a renowned Baptist pastor Reverend Edwin Peters, will be played by Ernie Hudson.
In addition to Lena, she also has a stepsister named Sarah (Maggie Lawson), who is the Police Superintendent, and a brother named Jonah (Marcus Scribner), a rookie cop. Lena’s stepfather, Ben Silver, was a judge who was killed on the steps of a courthouse prior to the show’s premiere.

Boston Blue will also feature Danny’s son Sean, whose original actor has been replaced with Mika Amonsen, who went to Boston to make his own career in law enforcement.
The synopsis hinted that Danny wants to reconnect with his son, although whether this means they were estranged for a time remains to be seen. Since Sean wanted to make a name for himself and not just be known for his family name, there could have been some feelings over Sean’s decision to move.
In addition to finding out more about the new family Danny will get to know, the synopsis also details the case that will bring Danny and his new partner together. Still described as an NYPD detective in the synopsis, Danny works with Lena in order to investigate the origins of a fire that started at a tech company. Their investigation will take them into the world of “facial recognition technology, family ties, and a search for justice that brings the Silver and Reagan families closer together.”
So far, we do not know if this means Danny already moved due to Sean being in Boston or if the case somehow brings him there permanently. Plus, the pilot episode will also have Danny’s sister, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan), in town to see her brother.
There is no word yet on whether we will see any other original cast members from Blue Bloods. However, we could still get a cameo from Danny’s other family members, especially since we know we will see Erin in the first episode. This will likely set up the background for Danny’s move and allow the audience to check in on how everyone is doing.
Boston Blue premieres on CBS on Friday, October 17 at 10/9c. If you want to check out previous episodes of its predecessor, they are available on Paramount+.
