Blue Bloods wrapped up in December, but the finale still feels fresh. Fans are still determining how they feel about the last chapter of the Reagan family as we knew them. The thing is, there's a new show coming, and it'll be here faster than you think.
CBS confirmed plans for a Blue Bloods spinoff titled Boston Bloods in February, and despite only one month having passed, the network has released a promo. It's a brief promo, and only features clips of the character we know, Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), but we have to admit we weren't prepared. CBS is not messing around with this franchise.
Blue Bloods spinoff will debut during fall season
In addition to confirming the show's star, the Boston Bloods promo confirmed that it will be released during the fall season. This is a very quick turnaround, and one that ensures Wahlberg will not miss a beat between portraying Reagan on the flagship series and Reagan in the spinoff.
The specific air date for Boston Bloods has yet to be released, but that too will arrive shortly. CBS has announced plans to unveil its complete fall schedule on May 7. Mum has largely been the word when it comes to Boston Bloods, but we do know that it will follow Reagan as he moves away from the rest of his family.
He will attempt to get a fresh start in Boston, and will be paired with "detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family." Reagan has a long history of developing chemistry and underlying romantic feelings with his female partners, so it will be interesting to see if the writers choose to repeat history or push the Reagan/Peters dynamic in a new direction.
Boston Bloods will focus on Danny Reagan

Because so little is known about Boston Bloods, fans are maintaining hope that the spinoff will find a way to incorporate characters from Blue Bloods in a cameo capacity at the least. The latter was such a family-based affair that it would, admittedly, be odd if nobody ever traveled a few hours to go see a character like Danny Reagan.
The decision to recenter the franchise around Wahlberg has, allegedly, led to tension with some of his former co-stars. A source told Radar Online that Tom Selleck, the who actor who played Wahlberg's dad, feels slighted and is frustrated with the actor for playing along. "He's found out everything going on behind his back," the source claimed. "It's a huge burn. He feels a sense of betrayal and is furious over the news."
