So far in Chicago Fire season 15, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Kelly Severide's (Taylor Kinney) marriage hasn't caught too many waves. Apart from settling into new professional roles, as Severide takes over Firehouse 51, the couple has been on stable ground. Well, that might not be lasting too much longer as the show's boss teases an upcoming "bombshell revelation" for Kidd.
Most of the personal storylines for Kidd and Severide have revolved around starting a family of their own, but it's unclear whether that will be the twist Chicago Fire season 15 has in store. Last season, the couple dealt with the devastation of a pregnancy loss and opened their home up to Isaiah as their foster son. Isaiah could have come back this season, but the cliffhanger was abruptly resolved.
As Kidd continues to focus on mentoring the firehouse's new probational firefighters into fighting shape, forcing her to make some hard decisions along the way. But as teased by showrunner Victor Teran, there's a "bomb" heading for Kidd that relates to something in her past that will both reframe how she sees herself and "question everything." Now that's an intriguing tease.
Kidd 'questions everything' after a bombshell from her past
Speaking with TV Guide, Teran answered the outlet's question about "a bombshell revelation" that comes from Kidd's past, and while the showrunner remained cagey, he shared what he could about what's in store for Chicago Fire's fan-favorite character:
"All I can tell you is that it's the kind of thing that's so unexpected... and that doesn't happen often in life that things get reframed for you, like even who you are gets reframed in a moment. And I think that when that happens, you question everything. I think that's what's going to happen for Stella. It's one of those sorts of bombs that drop that makes you ask questions and that changes everything."
Kidd's sense of self will be reframed in a moment? She's going to question everything? Everything's going to change? Teran's description of this upcoming Kidd storyline sounds pretty substantial and, if we're being honest, kind of scary. If it's going to be a bombshell for Kidd, there's no doubt that it's going to feel the same way for us viewers, especially if her world is truly this rocked.
In the same conversation with TV Guide, Teran spoke about Kidd and Severide's journey to starting a family and confirmed that these conversations will come up again, possibly sooner than we might think. Being so, it's not a far leap to theorize that whatever bomb's set to drop in Kidd's lap could have something to do with her own family life, especially if it's connected to her past.
Chicago Fire has established that Kidd's parents, who haven't received names, died when she was 12 years old and she grew up with her Aunt Laverne and Uncle Ray. We could be dipping back into Kidd's history and learning something even she doesn't know about her parentage. Are one or both of her parents alive? Were her aunt and uncle her actual parents? Was she adopted?
These are the kinds of bombshells from the past that are not only prevalent in drama television but would also shake up anyone, no matter what. They are also the questions we have before Kidd eventually gets to the place where she's questioning everything. They would obviously tie right into how Kidd would tackle parenthood and whether that's something she actually wants to pursue.
We don't yet know what twist will rock Kidd in Chicago Fire season 15, but as viewers, we're excited to find out. Not just for the excitement that plot twists bring but to, hopefully, get to know Kidd even further after all these years. It's unconfirmed when exactly this storyline's set to detonate, but we're ready for the journey it will take us on with Kidd and, of course, Severide.
