Nearly a month after it was announced that Da’Vinchi would be joining the cast of Chicago Fire as a new series regular in season 15, we finally have our first look at Firehouse 51’s newest recruit!
While NBC has not yet released any promotional materials for Chicago Fire season 15, fans have been gifted their first look at Da’Vinchi’s character, Marcus Burke, courtesy of a behind-the-scenes photo taken during a recent set visit.
In the photo, we see Da’Vinchi alongside returning stars Miranda Rae Mayo, Hanako Greensmith, and Jocelyn Hudon posing with a pair of fans during a recent visit to the set. As seen in the photo, Marcus is not donning the standard Firehouse 51 uniform but rather a gray candidate shirt, a uniform we haven’t seen in quite a while, as it’s been a few seasons since the show introduced a new candidate in training.

Thus far, it has not yet been revealed where Da’Vinchi’s character will slot into the Firehouse 51 roster. In fact, all we know about the character is that he’s described as being roguish, funny with a wry sense of humor, and has a little bit of a defiant streak. However, the timing of his addition to the cast certainly makes it feel safe to assume that he could very well be joining the team as the potential replacement for Cruz. After all, Squad 3 has long been a four-man operation, and they’re going to be down a member with Cruz’s forthcoming departure due to Joe Minoso’s exit from the show.
Knowing Minoso is exiting the season just as Da’Vinchi is being brought into the fold reads very much as a passing of the baton situation. This would also explain why NBC has revealed so little information about Da’Vinchi’s character and the circumstances that bring him to Firehouse 51.
We have not seen a permanent new addition to the Squad 3 team since Cruz transferred to the team, and it would certainly be interesting to see a fresh face enter the mix. We’ve seen Severide mentor several characters in recent seasons, but we’ve not seen him directly mentor a candidate under his direct command in years. It would be fun to see how he’d approach training up a new firefighter to replace Cruz and also to see how Capp and Tony take to working alongside a newcomer.
There’s also the chance that we could see someone from Truck move over to Squad, following a path similar to the one Cruz took in joining Severide’s team. However, we can’t see the show rehashing an old storyline by having a member of Truck join Squad, especially considering that Cruz’s addition to Truck was also timed to a major cast exit when Charlie Barnett left the show.
Getting some fresh blood on Squad 3, literally in the form of a new firefighter candidate, would allow the show to explore new storylines it hasn’t been able to tackle before, which is always amazing for a show 15 seasons into its run. While we don’t like the idea of Cruz needing to be replaced, it would be fun to see how an up-and-coming firefighter could shake things up on Squad 3 and push its members in new ways.
