Chicago Fire fans have good reason to be worried about their favorite characters after the events of the season 14 finale.
Season 14 came to a close with a shocking cliffhanger that put the lives of nearly every member of Firehouse 51 on the line. In fact, only three characters were safe and accounted for when the finale closed out;those characters being paramedics Violet and Novak and Firehouse 51’s former chief, Dom Pascal. The fates of literally every other member of the team were left up in the air after the finale ended with several members trapped inside a building fire following an explosion that brought the roof down and others trying to escape via the rig’s ladder when they were engulfed in flames.
After the events of the finale, fans have been theorizing about who might be safe and who could be in real danger. According to star Miranda Rae Mayo, the reality is that nobody is truly safe.
“I know nothing about the resolution. Everyone is in danger,” Mayo told TV Insider in a new interview. “Nobody’s safe really.”
This sentiment certainly makes sense, as the show’s finale was intended to pave the way for possible cast exits and a shake-up to 51 come season 15. We also know that work on season 15 will not begin until this summer, with production expected to begin sometime in July ahead of the show’s return this fall.
Interestingly, while we know that Mayo’s character Stella Kidd won’t be going anywhere, neither will Taylor Kinney’s Kelly Severide after both stars inked new deals for season 15, Mayo pointed out that this doesn’t mean the pair will make it out of the building fire unscathed.
“Maybe we’ll still be on the show, but who knows if we’ll still be on shift,” Mayo remarked, hinting that fans shouldn’t just automatically assume Kidd and Severide won’t be injured on the job.
While we can’t rule out Kidd or Severide being injured on the call, we at least know neither will perish in the fire, which is honestly a relief and more than we can say about the rest of 51’s team. It’s been a few seasons since Chicago Fire has killed off a major character in the line of duty, and fans are anxious for a reason, as we have seen this play out before.
The Chicago Fire season 2 finale ended with the lives of every member of the firehouse on the line after every member of 51 was inside a building responding to a call when an explosion occurred, the sole exception being Chief Boden. That building explosion would claim the life of paramedic Leslie Shay in the season 3 premiere, which is why fans are worried that season 15 could begin with a major death. We've not seen a finale event quite like that moment in several seasons, and while the circumstances were unique, this definitely feels like history about to repeat itself.
We're hoping that, in the end, no one dies in the fire, but it’s going to be a long summer waiting for updates on the rest of the cast, and Chicago Fire season 15 cannot arrive soon enough!
