Chicago Fire is about to enter a new era this season as Victor Teran takes over as showrunner following Andrea Newman’s departure, and while this new era will bring about some changes to the show, one thing is clear: Stellaride will remain a core part of the show’s DNA and be at the forefront of some of the season’s biggest storylines.
Heading into season 15, fans have been eager to see what’s in store for Kidd and Severide, who both ended season 14 in precarious situations with their lives on the line in the finale's warehouse fire. As season 15 opens, we’ll get to see the pair settle into new roles within Firehouse 51 with all signs pointing toward Severide accepting the captain position at the firehouse and Kidd preparing to take on a group of firefighter candidates as their training officer.
As the power couple prepares to take on these new roles, it seems that fans should prepare for the pair to face some challenges both as individuals and as a couple.
"Being married while doing such a high-risk, high-stress job has always been tricky, but this season we're going to take things to another level in terms of challenges Kidd and Severide will have to confront, both individually and as a couple," Teran shared of what fans can expect for Stellaride this season via Matt’s Inside Line.
Among the challenges the pair will apparently face this season is what Teran teased as a “bombshell revelation from Kidd’s past." While he kept things purposefully vague, he did hint that this bombshell is something that will “forever change how she sees the world and herself.”
It seems safe to assume that perhaps this bombshell will involve Kidd’s family, as she has quite a complicated past that the show hasn’t really ever fully explored. We know that Kidd lost both of her parents when she was young, after which she went to live with her aunt and uncle. Could this bombshell reveal that there’s more to what happened to her parents? Perhaps that information will finally come to light and the truth will be different than what Kidd was told when she was younger?
Learning new information about her parents’ deaths would certainly have the potential to turn her world upside down and change it forever. We’ve long hoped to dive deeper into Kidd’s family origins, but we aren’t quite prepared for Kidd to go through something so major; it’s going to change how she sees herself and the world.
Hopefully, Kidd will be able to lean on Severide during that time, and we’re really excited to see how he supports her through that storyline. We’ve seen Kidd be Severide’s rock a lot lately, being the calm in the storms around him, and we’re ready to see the roles reverse a bit through this new storyline. We just hope that amid everything going on, the pair will get some lighter moments in the season, as we want to see the pair getting to enjoy a bit of happiness amid everything else going on.
