After taking a week off, Chicago Fire returns on April 22 with an episode that will put the show’s paramedic team at the center of the episode!
Chicago Fire season 14, episode 18, “Instinct,” will put Violet and Novak center stage when the pair’s shift takes an unexpected turn. It all begins, as seen in the promo, when a man comes racing up to them for help outside of what appears to be an apartment building.
“My girlfriend, she’s pregnant and something’s wrong,” the man says in a panic as he then leads Violet and Novak to his girlfriend.
Upon walking into the room, Violet and Novak immediately race into action as they approach the woman, informing her that her boyfriend said she might be in labor and assuring her they’re there to help. That’s when the woman drops an unexpected bit of news revealing the man is not her boyfriend as she tries to warn them to leave while they can.
Unfortunately, her warning comes too late as the man pulls out a gun and makes it clear they’re not going anywhere.
The episode synopsis paints a more complete picture of the episode’s storyline in revealing that Violet and Novak are thrust into a dangerous and fast-escalating situation in which they’ll have to trust their instincts to protect themselves and the woman being held captive by this mystery man. Interestingly, the photos for the episodes don’t give us too much else to work with, with the limited photos released by NBC simply focusing on moments we see unfold in the trailer.
We’ve got a still of the pair walking along with the man who takes them captive, the crediting of the photo revealing the man is named Ryan.

One of the few other stills shows Violet and Novak speaking with the woman held captive, who we learn is named Sarah based on the photo caption.

Interestingly, of the limited photos from NBC for this week's episode, there is only one photo that doesn't feature Violet and Novak. The photo sees Vasquez and his friend from the CFD, Officer Girardi walking through the area where Violet and Novak went missing. The photo seems to suggest that Vasquez is the one to pick up on the fact that the pair have gone missing and spearheads the search for them when they don't return to 51.

It's definitely quite interesting that we only see three particular characters in the promotional materials for the episode. This seems to suggest that the episode will sideline most of the cast by putting a bigger focus on the trio of Violet, Novak, and Vasquez.
This isn't to say we won't see other characters, but the last time we saw such few characters featured in the promotional items for an episode, we saw more than half of the series regular cast missing in the episode. If this episode is set to center around Violet and Novak and how they find their way out of this situation, it would make sense that the other characters take more of a background role for the episode.
