It seems Da’Vinchi will not be the only new face joining the Chicago Fire cast this fall! Actor Matthew Daddario has joined the cast of Chicago Fire in a mystery role and will make his arrival early in season 15.

The specifics of Daddario’s role on the show remain unknown, including whether he has joined the show as a series regular, a recurring character, or simply via a guest spot, but what we do know is that Daddario will be playing one of Firehouse 51’s new probationary firefighters.

Da’Vinchi broke the news of Daddario’s casting via an August 20 Instagram post. In the post, the two newcomers take a moment to relax on set alongside returning star Brandon Larracuente, with the trio seated side by side on the front of Truck 81. This seems to hint that Da’Vinchi and Daddario’s characters will both be candidates assigned to Truck 81, training under Lieutenant Stella Kidd—which would make sense given Truck said goodbye to multiple members in season 14.

We also get a glimpse of Daddario and Da’Vinchi’s characters suited up in their full firefighter gear in a behind-the-scenes video posted as part of the Instagram photo drop. While there is no audio on the video, it’s clear to see that we’ll be meeting four new candidates, and these new candidates’ eagerness to show their stuff is going to lead to some friendly (and possibly unfriendly) competition among the group.

In the past, new additions to the Firehouse 51 team haven’t always been the best news as we’ve had our share of characters whose arrivals ruffled feathers. However, star Jocelyn Hudon gushed about her excitement for fans to meet the new probies, telling E! News, “I know the audience is going to love them.”

With so many cast exits in recent seasons, it’s nice to see an influx of fresh faces joining the Chicago Fire cast, and we’re particularly excited about the addition of Daddario to the cast. While we don’t yet know what role he’ll play in the new season, we’re hoping he’ll appear in more than a few episodes, and we would certainly love to see his character become a permanent fixture alongside Da’Vinchi’s character, Marcus Burke.

Since his breakthrough role on Freeform’s Shadowhunters, Daddario has bounced around a bit, with his biggest TV role since the show’s conclusion coming via a 10-episode run in the second season of Paramount+’s Why Women Kill. Most recently, Daddario starred opposite Holland Roden in the Hallmark Countdown to Christmas movie Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story, which was filmed in partnership with the NFL.

We’d love to see Daddario join the Chicago Fire cast as a new member of the show’s ensemble and stick around for more than just a few episodes. The show could certainly use some new blood to shake things up and wouldn’t complain if Daddario, Da’Vinchi, and Larracuente got to share the screen together on a regular basis.

As we’ve seen many times in the past, the addition of new firefighters can also create unexpected and exciting new storylines. Adding a batch of new rookies to the show’s core ensemble would certainly allow for the show to go in a variety of directions and give the writers the chance to play around with new pairings on the show as well. Who knows, Daddario or Da’Vinchi’s character could even find themselves in a new relationship, which could help to finally end the Violet, Novak, and Vasquez love triangle

We'll see what the future holds for DaVinchi and Daddario's characters when Chicago Fire season 15 premieres on October 7 at 9/8c on NBC.
