Heading into the Chicago Fire season 15 premiere, there are a lot of questions on the minds of the fans. Will Severide take the job at OFI? How will Pascal be written out of the show? Will everyone make it out of the warehouse fire alive? The list could go on and on, but there is no denying that it's that final question that has been at the forefront of every fan's mind throughout the summer.
It’s been quite some time since Chicago Fire ended a season with a cliffhanger as massive as the one season 14 concluded with, one that left the life of nearly every member of the team hanging in the balance. In fact, the season 2 finale is the only other finale in the show's history that left more characters’ lives up in the air, and that finale aired all the way back in 2014. So yeah, it’s been a stressful summer.
Thankfully, the wait is nearly over, and we’ll soon know the exact outcome of the warehouse fire, including whether everyone makes it out alive and unscathed. Of course, if you can’t wait any longer, NBC just spoiled the outcome of one half of the season-ending cliffhanger via newly released photos from season 15, episode 1!

In the limited batch of photos released from the season 15 premiere, there are a pair of photos that confirm the group of firefighters who were fleeing the rooftop when the ball of fire seemingly engulfed them are all in the clear. These photos seem to be immediately after the explosion left us worrying for their lives, with Kidd, Herrmann, Vasquez, and Ballard all safe following the explosion.
We see the group clearly in the two photos below, and they all appear to be fine, with no visible injuries to suggest otherwise.
We’re not surprised the group is safe, as all signs have pointed towards them making it out of the fire without harm. That said, it’s certainly nice to have further evidence that Kidd, Herrmann, Vasquez, and Ballard are going to be fine. Now we can reserve our energy for worrying about the rest of the team, whose fates are a bit more complicated.
Of the bunch, Cruz is the character we’re certainly most concerned for, as we know that Joe Minoso is leaving the show, and we haven’t seen much of him on set filming alongside the rest of the show’s cast. The odds don’t seem to be in Cruz’s favor, and it’s looking likely that Cruz might sustain some type of injury during the warehouse fire caused by the roof collapse.
Given we know that Minoso is leaving the show and we haven’t seen him suited up in his CFD gear filming on location with the rest of the cast, we have to wonder if perhaps Cruz will be sidelined by an injury or perhaps remain at Gaffney for treatment. Considering the rumors that the 300th episode will welcome back Yuri Sardarov as Otis, with Cruz’s family set to be present in the episode as well as Chicago Med’s Steven Weber, we can’t shake the feeling that perhaps Cruz will need to remain in the hospital for an extended period of time, or that he could even end up in a medically induced coma, which could present the opportunity for Cruz to somehow see Otis in a dreamlike state.
That’s not a storyline we’re hoping to see for Cruz, but it would make sense, and the evidence does support it. We'll find out if our hunch was correct when Chicago Fire season 15 premieres on Wednesday, October 7, at 9/8c on NBC!
