Chicago Fire star may have just confirmed their exit ahead of season 15

In a new interview, one Chicago Fire star seemed to hint they might not be sticking around for season 15.

Who is leaving Chicago Fire? That is the question that has been at the forefront of fans’ minds following the season 14 finale cliffhanger, which left the fates of nearly every member of the cast up in the air. There is a growing fear that we could be losing a key member of the Firehouse 51 team when season 15 begins this fall, and sadly it seems that one star might have indirectly confirmed they won’t be back in action when the show kicks off its new season this fall, or rather, that they likely won’t be sticking around long.

As fans will recall, Dermot Mulroney took an unexpected leave from the show late in season 14, which led to the introduction of a storyline that saw Chief Dom Pascal fired from the CFD. Following Pascal’s firing, he left town to accept a new job out of state and missed several episodes of season 14 before returning in the season 14 finale.

In the finale, Pascal returned to Chicago to try to sway Severide into turning down the OFI job in order to become a captain within the CFD. While his return was fun and welcome for fans, it surprisingly didn’t provide much of an update on what he’d been up to since leaving Chicago or drop any hints that he could be returning to the CFD. Of course, that was the hope of fans, but it seems that Pascal’s return might be short-lived.

Dermot Mulroney will be filming The Hunting Wives season 3 this fall

When Dermot Mulroney took his break from Chicago Fire season 14, little information about his leave was revealed up front; however, we’d come to find out that his leave was connected to filming on The Hunting Wives season 2. Shortly after taking a step back from Chicago Fire, Mulroney began posting about filming Netflix’s hit series, and it wasn’t hard to connect the dots that he needed to step away from Chicago Fire to film The Hunting Wives.

It’s for this reason that it seems Pascal’s return to Chicago Fire will be short-lived, as Mulroney has revealed via an appearance on The Tangle podcast that filming on The Hunting Wives season 3 will begin this fall. With Mulroney needed for filming of The Hunting Wives this fall, this seems to suggest that Mulroney won’t be sticking around in Chicago, as he’ll be needed on set in North Carolina for The Hunting Wives.

“Season 3 is in prep. I think they’ve got writers in the room, and they’re cooking up a third season already. And that should begin filming in the fall. So, that’s great news for all the fans of The Hunting Wives,” Mulroney revealed.

We fully expect that Mulroney will be back for the Chicago Fire season 15 premiere, given that Pascal was on scene at the building fire that closed out the season. He’ll likely play a key role in the premiere as we watch the fallout of the finale cliffhanger play out, but beyond the premiere it’s unclear what role Pascal will play.

It seems unlikely that the CFD would just welcome him back with open arms after he was fired, and it also would undercut Severide’s promotion if Pascal moved back into 51 as its commanding officer. For these reasons, it seems likely that the show will write Pascal out of the series once again for both the sake of the storyline as well as to accommodate Mulroney’s filming schedule for The Hunting Wives.

As much as we’d love to see more of Mulroney, the show gave him a strong exit, and there’s not really a need to reverse course.
