It’s been a busy year for One Chicago alums, and it looks like we can add yet another name to the list of One Chicago alums working on new projects this summer!
After taking a brief acting hiatus the last several years, former Chicago Fire star Lauren German is getting back into the game with a new movie currently filming in Oklahoma City. While plot details for the project are not known, German made her return to Instagram on June 29 to thank the crew of the project for an incredible experience filming.
“Want to thank the crew of The Life Golden for their artistry and ingenuity. What an intensely talented group of skilled professionals out there in the great city of OKC. Thank you Craig K writer/director, Allen DOP, Michael 1st, CC props, LJ & Rhiannon hmu, Val & Jamie wardrobe, Ashely, JJ, Judy & everyone who made it happen with hard work & laughs. Jake, your shirts are outrageous, get a grip. Thank you kindly,” German wrote in her first Instagram post in three years.
While little is known about The Life Golden, it’s exciting to see German returning to acting after taking some time off after Lucifer’s final season.
German played Detective Chloe Decker on the hit drama, which started its run on FOX before making the jump to Netflix for its final three seasons. Lucifer was actually the first role German took after exiting Chicago Fire after two seasons playing paramedic Leslie Shay.
Shay was one of the first major deaths in the One Chicago franchise, with German’s exit setting the tone for the franchise, proving that no character is ever safe. We bid farewell to Shay in the season 3 premiere following the explosive season 2 finale cliffhanger that trapped every member of 51 inside a building as the season came to a close.
That finale cliffhanger and the resulting death of Shay is why Chicago Fire fans are so anxious about the upcoming 15th season of the show. Season 14 ended with a finale cliffhanger that felt quite reminiscent of the season 2 cliffhanger ending, with the lives of nearly every member of Firehouse 51 hanging in limbo. Knowing that the Chicago Fire writers were unafraid of killing off a major character once before when presenting a storyline such as this, fans are anxious to see if history might repeat itself with a major death opening the new season.
Hopefully, history will not repeat itself, but German’s exit from the show taught us to expect the unexpected, so there’s no telling what season 15 might bring. What we hope the months ahead do bring, though, is further updates on German’s newest role as we’re eager to learn more about The Life Golden and to see German back in action following her acting hiatus!
