During Chicago Med season 10, there was a lot for the show's dedicated fans to be excited about. For example, it was so compelling to see Dr. Charles' daughters return that they need to be part of season 11. On top of that, the season was surprisingly fun, it introduced beloved new characters, and it rejuvenated the show's storylines. For those reasons and more, it was the best Chicago Med season ever.

Since it was such a huge success, it could easily be argued that nothing about Chicago Med season 10 should have been changed. While that makes perfect sense, some viewers may wish that one huge aspect of the season was different thanks to a recent revelation. On the other hand, other fans will be extremely thankful that things played out as they did after they learn about the blockbuster moment that almost happened during season 10's finale

Chicago Med season 10 almost featured a mind-blowing moment

In October 2025, People published the transcript of an interview they conducted with Chicago Med's showrunner, Allen MacDonald. During that discussion, Dr. Hannah Asher's baby cliffhanger storyline was the first thing that came up. After the showrunner was asked when the show's writers decided who would be the father of Hannah's baby, he revealed that Chicago Med season 10's finale almost featured the return of Dr. Will Halstead.

"So early on, so we knew she was going to be pregnant, and we talked about who the father was going to be, and there were three contestants. The first two are very obvious, it's Ripley and Archer. The other one was going to be Dr. Will Halstead. And that would be the first time you had seen him in several years, was that she would go knock on a door and that he would answer after having not been on the show for two full seasons," MacDonald revealed.

Since it has been revealed that Nick Gehlfuss will be returning as Will during Chicago Med season 11, it may make it seem like his character could still be in the running to be the father of Hannah's baby. However, Allen told People that, despite briefly considering having Will in the mix to be the father, that idea was abandoned.

"But we decided that if we were going to bring Nick Gehlfuss back, we were going to do it in a different way than that."

If it had been Will who opened his door at the end of Chicago Med season 10, that moment wouldn't have come completely out of nowhere. Before the character departed at the end of the show's 8th season, Will had been in a relationship with Hannah. While their romance went awry, the characters shared an extremely strong bond while it briefly lasted.

Still, revealing that Will and Hannah had at least been intimate likely would have outraged a significant number of Chicago Med fans for a specific reason. When Will's character stopped working at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, he walked away from the hospital with the character he always seemed to love, Dr. Natalie Manning. Will having an intimate encounter with Hannah would have meant his relationship with Natalie had fallen apart in one way or another, and that would have upset many fans.
