Chicago Med's boss reveals Dr. Hannah Asher's pregnancy fears will soon be spotlighted

Before Chicago Med's season 11 fall finale came to an end, the show's viewers learned that Dr. Hannah Asher was dealing with some anxiety about her pregnancy. Most notably, viewers saw that Hannah had a nightmare about things going awry. Unfortunately for the character and anyone who roots for her happiness, it turns out that moment was a major harbinger of things to come.

In December 2025, TVLine published an article highlighting what fans can expect when the One Chicago shows return in 2026. For that article, the outlet spoke to Chicago Med's showrunner since season 10, Allen MacDonald. During his discussion with the outlet, MacDonald revealed that Hannah's nightmares about her pregnancy will continue to haunt her.

"You may remember that in the finale's opening scene, we had Hannah waking up from a nightmare. We're going to take a deeper dive into the fact that they're recurring, and that it has to do with the baby and her fears about the baby, her fears of being a mother, her fears of delivering the baby healthily."

On top of publishing that quote, TVLine's article revealed that another detail about Hannah's past will have a huge effect on how her pregnancy fears will affect her in the coming episodes. The outlet explained in its article that MacDonald spoke to them about the fact that Hannah's tragic backstory includes the tragic revelation that her mother died in childbirth.

According to the article based on the showrunner's remarks, the horrible way that Hannah's mother died will haunt her as she grapples with fears about her own pregnancy. Considering pregnancy fears are a perfectly normal thing for expecting parents to experience, it is easy to understand how Hannah's backstory could make her deeply struggle with those emotions.
