It seems a familiar face will be checking into Gaffney Chicago Medical before Chicago Med heads into a break to make way for NBC’s Winter Olympics coverage!
After missing the last five episodes, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut will finally be returning in Chicago Med season 11, episode 12, “Spill Your Guts.” That’s right, Dr. Naomi Howard will be back in action after missing the last several episodes of Chicago Med. Not only will Naomi finally return in the February 4 episode, but it seems she’ll be playing a key role in one of the episode’s central storylines.
As the promo for the episode teased, Naomi will play a key role in helping to walk Goodwin through a procedure in the air when a board member shows signs of bleeding around her heart and needs emergency action before they land. Or at least, it seems Naomi will be trying to provide support as the plane loses service just as Goodwin is about to perform the procedure.
Given the promo cuts out from there, it’s unclear whether the plane will regain communication with Naomi at Gaffney in time for her to walk Goodwin through the procedure. Regardless, it’s exciting to see Naomi will not only be back this week but will be a central part of the episode.
We haven’t gotten to see Naomi and Goodwin teaming up as frequently as we’d like, and we love that it’s Naomi who will be called upon to assist Goodwin in her time of need. These are two amazing characters, and it’s going to be fun seeing how they play off each other via the storyline, even if they aren’t sharing the actual screen together given the circumstances of the storyline.
Regardless of the circumstances, we’re just excited to see Naomi back in the mix after the show quietly sidelined her for the last several weeks. We had really thought that the show was prepared to give Naomi a bigger role after she professed her feelings for Frost and the show set up a new love triangle between the duo and Chicago Fire’s Novak.
Naomi will clearly have her hands full in episode 12 helping Goodwin, but we’re hoping between the craziness we’ll get the chance to see her share the screen with Frost as well. Even though Frost has hinted that there is nothing between them and has started seeing Novak, we’re not so certain the show has really moved on that quickly, and hope to see Chicago Fire further explore the dynamic as season 11 continues!
