Chicago Med, Fire and PD are taking April 15 off (here's why there will be no new episodes)

The One Chicago shows will be in rerun mode for April 15. Here's why we won't be getting new episodes and what to expect from the night's planned reruns.

It's going to be a disappointing week for One Chicago fans as Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD are all taking the week off. That's right, there are no new episodes of the One Chicago shows coming our way on April 15, but hey, there is at least some good news.

Unlike in past weeks when we've seen the One Chicago shows bumped from the schedule entirely when there were no new episodes, NBC will at least be airing reruns of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD on April 15. This means that fans can still enjoy Wednesday night with their favorite first responders, just not via new episodes but by revisiting episodes that aired previously in the season.

While it's annoying to see the shows going into yet another break, the good news is that this is our final break of the season. Once the shows return on April 22, the shows will air their final episodes of the season without any interruptions at all, which is why we're getting a break in the schedule this season.

Following the release of the One Chicago shows' seventeenth episodes on April 8, only four new episodes remained in the season; however, NBC had five weeks in its schedule to fill before the shows' May 13 finales. This meant that NBC would have to schedule at least one final break somewhere in the season as it only had four new episodes of the One Chicago shows to air, but five weeks of programming to fill.

By scheduling the final reruns of the season on April 15, this will allow NBC to air the final four episodes of Chicago Med season 11, Chicago Fire season 14, and Chicago PD season 13 without any interruptions. That's certainly much better than what ABC has decided to do with the final episodes of 911 and Grey's Anatomy, which has seen the network send the shows on a three-week break only to bring them back and air two last episodes as the shows' sign-off.

While we have to deal with reruns on April 15, once we get through this final break, we'll have four consecutive weeks of new One Chicago episodes to enjoy as the seasons come to a close and prepare to sign off for the summer hiatus.
