After Chicago Med arguably aired its best season in the show's history, there were a lot of reasons to be excited about season 11. While a huge cast departure left me feeling heartbroken, and I was worried about a character's storyline, season 11's plot seemed poised to be incredibly compelling. The fact that it had been announced that the season would also feature a huge character return was yet another reason for fans to be excited about the series.

While there were a lot of onscreen reasons that Chicago Med season 11 was set to be a huge deal for the show and its fans, a different kind of event that took place when it was filmed was a huge deal too. During the filming of the show's 11th season, Chicago Med reached a mind-blowing milestone that the vast majority of TV series never even come close to achieving.

Chicago Med season 11 features the show's 200th episode

On November 17, 2015, the first episode of Chicago Med premiered on NBC. The third series in the One Chicago franchise, there was no way to know if the medical drama could recreate the success of Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire. After all, the fourth series in the franchise, Chicago Justice, came and went quickly as it was canceled after only one short season.

Fortunately for everyone involved in Chicago Med, the show wouldn't only be a success, it became so popular that it has lasted long enough for it to currently be airing its 11th season. Not only that, it turns out that the 2nd episode of the current season is a huge deal. Chicago Med season 11, episode 2, "A Game of Inches," is the 200th episode of the hit medical drama.

In the days leading up to the 200th Chicago Med episode airing on NBC, the official One Chicago franchise Instagram page uploaded a short video encouraging viewers to watch the landmark episode.

What that video didn't reveal is that on top of being a milestone moment, the 200th episode of Chicago Med will be special for another reason, it will feature the return of Nick Gehlfuss as Dr. Will Halstead. An October 2025 TV Insider article quoted the outlet's conversation with Chicago Med's showrunner, Allen MacDonald, about how special the 200th episode will be.

"It is a beautiful emotional episode, and that was what was always important to me, that it would be big emotion, not necessarily big set piece. And I always intended to bring back an OG Season 1 character. I shouldn’t even make it that vague. I always intended to bring Will back at some point. And then eventually, I realized that the best time to do that would be the 200th episode."

The fact that Chicago Med is reaching such a massive milestone is reason enough for the show's biggest fans to celebrate. Learning about how special the 200th episode sounds like it will be should make dedicated viewers feel even more overjoyed.
