Chicago Med isn't new tonight (but here's what to know about episode 10)

The medical drama got pushed back at the last minute.

Chicago Med was supposed to be on NBC tonight, but other matters came up. Namely, the farewell speech given by Joe Biden ahead of the United States Presidential Inauguration of Donald Trump on Jan. 20.

The farewell speech will be broadcast on NBC from 8 p.m. ET to 8:15 ET. Once its wrapped, NBC will cut to a return of the Chicago Med season 10 episode "Trust Fall." It may seem like a minor change, a 15 minute delay, but the network decided to scrap the entire One Chicago lineup as a result.

Chicago Med returns on Wednesday, January 22

Don't worry, though, because Chicago Med and the rest of the franchise will be coming back on January 22. The episode that was originally slated to air on January 15, and even had a promo air after the winter premiere. Titled "Broken Hearts," the episode will see plenty of new conflicts for both Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) and Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber). Yes, the promo says the title is "Together One Last Time" but the synopsis is the same.

Asher will be confronted by a character from her past. Given what we know about her past, and the various substance abuse issues she's had to contend with, it'll be interesting to see whether this old friend derails the progress she's made and puts her on a regressive path. Hopefully, she is able to avoid any such detours.

Archer, meanwhile, will have to contend with a boss who is an absolute terror to contend with, yet needs help due to heart problems. It'll be interesting to see how the oftentimes grumpy Archer deals with this patient. We are, after all, not that far removed from Archer nearly resigning from Gaffney in the fall finale.

The episode will focus on Dr. Asher and Dr. Archer

Archer was on the cusp of quitting, but decided to stay in an effort to save his injured friend, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson). He did just that, and in doing so, was convinced by Goodwin that he belongs at Gaffney, saving lives and improving others.

The third subplot in "Broken Hearts" involves twins. "An army of surgeons prepares to separate conjoined twins," the NBC synopsis reads, which should make for some fascinating discussions and debates among the other members of the ED.

Chicago Med has quietly been one of the most popular One Chicago titles in season 10, nearly overtaking Chicago Fire in the ratings and trouncing PD, which is currently in third place. It'll be fun to see how the show manages to keep this positive momentum going during the season's second half.
