Heading into Chicago Med season 11, we hoped that perhaps the show would finally begin to give certain characters new romantic storylines, and the writers certainly delivered. Season 11 has been full of unexpected romantic pairings and relationship developments, including the introduction of a new love triangle involving a Chicago Fire character.
The Frost x Novak x Naomi love triangle was not on our radar heading into the season, but the storyline has become one of our favorite parts of the season. What is so great about this love triangle is that there are legitimate reasons to root for both pairings at the heart of the love triangle.
It had been clear since season 10 that there were budding feelings between Frost and Naomi, but the pair failed to act upon them right away. When Frost finally took a chance and asked Naomi out, she turned down the offer out of fear of mixing her work and personal lives by dating a colleague. By the time that Naomi realized she shouldn’t let her fear get in the way of pursuing something with Frost, it was too late, as Frost had begun seeing Novak.
The Frost and Novak pairing was unexpected but captivated us from the moment the pair started getting flirty while helping a young patient find their friend’s missing pet bunny. Novak wasn’t one to jump right into the relationship and played hard to get, which brought about some fun scenes, such as when Frost asked for her number, and she replied with “911.”
Soon Frost and Novak began seeing one another, and it looked like the pair had a lot of promise until the writers threw an unexpected curveball our way in Chicago Fire season 14, episode 12. While Novak wanted to keep things casual, it was clear Frost wanted to take their relationship to the next level as he admitted to really liking her and wanting to make this a serious relationship. That sadly scared Novak away, with the pair breaking up by the episode’s end.
When the One Chicago crossover rolled around, it looked like the show was working on a reunion when Frost stepped in to take care of Novak and called in her siblings to be with her while she fought for her life. However, we’re now a few episodes removed from the crossover, and there have been no signs of Frost and Novak getting back together. This seemed to be good news for the Frost and Naomi shippers… that was until the Chicago Med writers threw a new curveball into the mix!

Frost and Naomi are trapped in a wrong place, wrong time love story
It seems the stars may never align for Frost and Naomi at this point. When they were both single, Naomi wasn’t ready to date a coworker. By the time Naomi was ready to give in to her feelings and see where things could go with Frost, he had moved on and begun seeing Novak. Now that Frost has broken up and is single again, it’s Naomi who is now in a relationship!
While treating Frost’s father in the ED, Naomi impressed Frost’s mom with her intelligence and enjoyment of word puzzles. Without hesitation, Frost’s mom asked Naomi if she was single, as she looked to play matchmaker between the pair, which was when Naomi revealed she was seeing someone.
After the awkward exchange, Frost caught up with Naomi and she revealed that she had met a guy recently and things were going well so far. While they had only gone on a few dates so far, there hadn’t been any red flags, and she seemed optimistic about where things could go.
Interestingly, when telling Frost about the relationship, Frost asked what red flags she would be looking for, and she playfully described Frost in a moment that certainly indicated that there may still be hope for Frost and Naomi fans. The moment was brief but was just enough to keep this love triangle alive by leaving the door open.
We’re going to have to wait to see where this goes, but if this cycle continues, there is a good chance that Frost and Novak will decide to give their relationship another try just as Naomi’s relationship with her new boyfriend comes to an end. Of course, with the finale fast approaching, our hope is the cycle might finally break with Frost and Novak finally both being single and in a place where they can give dating a try. However, it’s clear that the writers are leaning into the wrong place and time trope and might not be ready to break the cycle before the season ends.
