Chicago Med season 11 managed to bring back several familiar faces over the course of the season; however, there was one key character who failed to appear despite playing a pivotal role in season 10 of the series.
The tenth season finally introduced fans to Hannah Asher’s sister Lizzy who debuted in the tenth episode of the season, “Broken Hearts.” In the episode, Lizzy came to Gaffney to ask Hannah to diagnose her with PCOS so that she could afford another round of IVF, as we learned that her sister had been trying to become a mother but was struggling to get pregnant. While Hannah couldn’t provide her with a false diagnosis, as doing so would mean committing medical fraud, she did give her sister a check for $25,000 to help pay for another round of IVF.
Unfortunately, Lizzy would face devastating complications that left Hannah with no choice but to perform an emergency hysterectomy. After the procedure, Hannah offered to become a surrogate for her sister, but that plan hit a snag when Hannah was undergoing tests and learned she was already pregnant.
In the season 10 finale, Hannah broke the news to Lizzy that she was unable to be a surrogate, as she was pregnant, and the news did not go over well. Lizzy lashed out at Hannah before storming out of the hospital.

We expected that Lizzy would return at some point in season 11, but the season came and went without any appearance from Hannah’s sister, which was honestly disappointing. While Hannah and Lizzy didn’t leave things on the best of terms, we hoped to see Lizzy return in season 11 and for the two sisters to mend fences.
Sadly, that did not end up happening, but it seems there were plans to bring Lizzy back. In fact, they actually did bring actress Erin Anderson back to film a new scene for season 11, but the scene was ultimately ended up on the cutting room floor.
“I think that’s a fantastic question because the one hanging chad in Hannah’s life is her sister Lizzy,” Chicago Med showrunner Allen MacDonald told Parade when asked if the show might revisit the storyline of Hannah becoming a surrogate for her sister in season 12. “We even brought Lizzy back for an episode this season but we cut her out because of time, but also because it was a scene between her and Archer actually, it wasn’t with Hannah. The reason we cut it out, or I cut it out, was because I felt like we were playing a vibe that we had already seen before with Hannah, and that the next time we see Lizzy I want it to feel different.”
Although the show was unable to give Lizzy a return in season 11, it seems that there is hope we could see more of the character in season 12.
“We definitely intend to delve back into that story next season, and we love Erin Anderson, who plays Lizzy,” MacDonald added, hinting that Hannah’s sister will return for season 12.
It would indeed be nice to see Lizzy back, as it feels like there are unresolved feelings, and we'd love to explore where the two sisters might go next. Will Lizzy be apologetic about how she left things, or will she pressure Hannah into revisiting the surrogacy conversation now that her baby has arrived? Only time will tell, and thankfully, it sounds like we'll find out when season 12 arrives in the fall!
