Going into Chicago Med season 12, we knew that Dr. Lenox would be spending a fair amount of time away from Gaffney. Sarah Ramos revealed her pregnancy toward the end of the medical drama's previous season, and she was confirmed to miss at least the first handful of episodes of season 12. We've been missing Lenox something fierce lately, but she's finally making her grand return.
Following the airing of Chicago Med season 12 episode 5, NBC dropped the teaser trailer for episode 6, which gave fans a first look at two character returns. One's a lot less high profile, as Asher returns after a simple one-episode absence, but we officially received confirmation that Lenox is making her return to Gaffney after missing multiple episodes in the beginning of the new season.
In the season 12 episode 6 trailer, Asher's shown taking on an intense case as Ripley stands up to Sloan for the way she's handling her administrative duties. But the most exciting part of the trailer has to be Lenox finally returning to the hospital. She stands in the emergency department, not her in scrubs just yet, before sneaking away with Ripley in a supply closet. We're so back!

Lenox returns in Chicago Med season 12 episode 6
The clip of Lenox and Ripley in close quarters finds him noticeably shirtless as the couple seemingly sees each other for the first time in months. As the season 12 premiere revealed, Lenox went off to Zürich, Switzerland for a sabbatical, which included a drug trial for her Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker (GSS) prion disease. We're at long last going to get an update on her condition.
Lenox jokes to Ripley in the episode 6 trailer that "this place is falling apart without me," and while she says it with a certain edge of sarcasm, she honestly couldn't be telling more of the truth. Since Lenox left Gaffney, all hell has broken loose in the emergency department with Miranda pulling the strings and making everyone's life more difficult in every way imaginable.
She's returning to an emergency department that's in full disarray. Sloan has taken over as hospital administrator for Goodwin, who's now a nurse. Ripley stepped into the role of interim ED chief after Sloan pulled Archer from Lenox's position while she's away. Then there's Wu, who has been struggling to settle in among her new colleagues. In short, Gaffney is a mess.
It's the perfect time for Lenox's return, but by the looks of the clip in the trailer, she's much more excited to pick up where she left off with Ripley. And that's especially comforting considering that their relationship could be tested with Ripley currently working her job. We don't know if or when she's jumping back into work the second she returns. Will Sloan even give Lenox her job back?
There are lots of questions swirling around Lenox's comeback beyond her job and relationship status with Ripley. How will she react to Wu? Will they get along or clash? Did Lenox make any inroads with GSS after the clinical trial? We have only seen Lenox one time in season 12 and it was a short, surprise scene. We're finally getting her back, and there's a lot of lost time to make up for.
