From the very beginning of Chicago PD, Burgess and Platt have had a great relationship that has helped Burgess become an even better cop than she was set to be. While most of Burgess’s colleagues have focused on having Hank Voight as a mentor, Platt seems to be better suited for the role when it comes to her. And if we pay attention, season 13, episode 9 proves that even further.

The episode focuses heavily on Platt, her attachment to the cops she has trained, and how she will do whatever it takes to bring justice for the people she cares about. Luckily, it is Kim Burgess who works by her side. However, it doesn’t have the desired effect on Platt, who wants to ignore the clear evidence that Burgess is showing her.

Like Platt has taught her, Burgess follows her instinct and investigates the case, going where the evidence takes her. Even though the end result isn’t what Platt wanted to hear, it is the truth. All in all, that is exactly what Platt would have wanted for any other case. It is exactly what she taught Burgess to do.

Season 13, episode 9 is one of the best episodes we have seen the season, and that is because the focus is finally on Platt. However, the focus is also on Burgess. This duo is the perfect duo to lead any episode of Chicago PD. As much as we love to see Voight in charge, the women of the show deserve the same amount of attention.

In the past, when Upton was still around, the show covered is women-centered episodes quota with her, forgetting that there were other women fans were interested in seeing. Now, Burgess and Platt have the chance to remind the audience of their potential and how interesting their storylines actually are.

With the success of this episode, Burgess and Platt are proving that the audience wants more of them. As a matter of fact, those who have been watching Chicago Fire know that there is so much more to Platt than simply standing behind a desk. Her appearances on that show have always been worthwhile, and it’s definitely time that Chicago PD held her storyline to the same standards. After all, Platt never disappoints.

Burgess always being different from Voight’s norm and not following his lead the way others do has been an intriguing storyline. The show, however, seems to at times shy away from this in order to keep Voight on everyone’s good side. But if the show continued to give Burgess the focus it does during season 13, episode 9, they would have more in-depth episodes that allow her character to grow and continue to prove why she’s been a fan-favorite from the very beginning.

Both Burgess and Platt are some of the best female representation we have gotten in the One Chicago franchise. Their characters bring out a tough yet caring side in everyone who comes into contact with them, making them the heart and soul of Chicago PD.
