It seems the One Chicago shows will all have something in common with their respective season finales: lives will be on the line in the closing hours of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD!
One Chicago finale night will open with Gaffney under lockdown on Chicago Med with an armed gunman loose in the hospital. Chicago Fire will then see 51 responding to a fire that ends with a mayday call in a finale NBC has hyped as a finale that will leave fans breathless. And then there is Chicago PD, which will put the life of one member of the Intelligence Unit on the line as they work to bring in a fleeing suspect before it’s too late.
The Chicago PD season 13 finale will continue the storyline introduced in the penultimate episode, with the final two episodes of the season serving as a two-parter of sorts. The penultimate episode of the season saw Imani and Voight working to chase leads that would eventually lead them to Imani’s long-lost sister, Shari.
After discovering a murdered young woman tied to Shari through a phone found at the scene, Intelligence uncovered that Shari had been operating under an alias and was being controlled by an abusive man named Kirby, who had trafficked her for years under false identities. As the team followed a trail from a suspected trafficking ring to a trap house and eventually to one of Kirby’s known associates, Imani and Torres finally tracked Kirby down, though he managed to escape during a brief pursuit. However, their efforts weren’t in vain, as Torres discovered Shari at the house and brought her in safely, but in a heartbreaking twist, when Imani attempted to reunite with her sister at the district, Shari didn’t recognize her at all, setting the stage for an emotional and uncertain finale.
In the season 13 finale, the race to find Kirby and bring him to justice is underway, and unfortunately, Shari does not prove to be much help. When she refuses to cooperate, the Intelligence Unit has to rethink their strategy, and this change to their plans will eventually put Imani in the line of fire.
The closing moments of the finale promo see Imani and Shari in what appears to be a basement of an industrial building. We hear what sounds like gunfire as Imani seems to be hit and collapses as we hear Voight shouting, “Imani,” in the background as she goes down.
It’s a moment that suggests Imani will be injured in the line of duty while trying to bring Kirby to justice and one that certainly gives fans reason to be concerned about her fate.
Chicago PD has a history of introducing new characters only to write them off the show after just one season. We saw this happen again just this season with Toya Turner’s officer Kiana Cook, who joined the show in season 12 and then was written out of the show off-screen in the season 13 premiere. Given the show’s tendency of introducing a new character only to write them out after a season, Imani’s life being in jeopardy in the season finale certainly has us worried about her future on the show.
Hopefully, Imani will pull through and not be killed off the show. However, even if she does survive the events of the finale, we have to wonder whether she’ll remain with the Intelligence Unit come season 14 or whether she might step away from the CPD after finally finding her sister after all these years.
It would certainly be a perfect exit storyline for Imani to take time off to reconnect with her sister after losing so much time following her abduction. We’ll just have to see if that ends up being the writers’ plan or if Imani will return in season 14.
