The Chicago PD season 13 finale picks up immediately where the penultimate episode left off, with Imani entering the interrogation room to greet her sister, Shari. As we saw in the closing moments of the penultimate episode, Shari does not recognize Imani as she questions whether she’ll get her one phone call. Imani is stunned that her sister doesn’t recognize her as she informs her that she’s her sister, but Shari claims to not have a sister.Â
Imani tells Shari about how she was taken at the age of six by the man calling himself Russell Kirby. She tries to explain how DNA testing proves that Shari is her sister, but Shari is adamant that she doesn’t have a sister and wasn’t taken. As Voight prepares to step into the interrogation room, Platt informs him they got a hit on Kirby’s vehicle, and he sends Ruzek and Atwater to check it out.Â
Ruzek and Atwater arrive on the scene and find the BMW, but Kirby has already left and has entered the train station. The pair heads inside and begins to canvass the area, trying to locate him. While reviewing footage with security, they were able to track Kirby down and find that he never got on a train and, instead, left the station.Â
Back at the station, Voight tries to convince Shari to tell them anything helpful that could lead them to Kirby, but she presses them for information on what he’s done. Voight informs her that everything Imani said was true about Kirby as Imani apologizes for overwhelming her earlier. Shari tells the pair that Kirby raised her and that society doesn’t understand their relationship when Voight presses her on how he’s now her husband.Â
Imani and Torres accompany Shari to a safe house, and Torres heads out. Imani continues to walk Shari through the house as Shari makes it clear she wasn’t a captive and is not a victim. After a shower, Shari informs Imani they have a friend named JoJo who Kirby might have contacted. Imani calls the tip in to Voight, and they begin to look into the name to try to find a connection they can chase down.Â
They eventually get a hit on the name, and the Intelligence Unit tracks down JoJo as they press for information about Kirby. He assures them he’s not talked to him in months and that he’s not in the house. The lead seems to be a bust, as Voight suggests they have to consider that this was a wild goose chase and she lied. Imani doesn’t want to believe that her sister lied, but Voight reminds Imani she’s a co-offender and they could press her to find Kirby. Â
Imani suggests they take it slow and that Shari just needs time. As Imani leaves, Voight presses JoJo for information that could help them track Kirby down. On her way back to the safe house, Imani gets a call from the officer watching the safe house informing her that Shari is not answering the door. When she arrives, she finds Shari on the floor of the closet, and she mentions she feels like she recognizes Imani’s voice, but it can’t be real. Imani assures her there was an "us" once and that she can show her.
Voight, Atwater, and Ruzek track down a lead as the man who was injured by Kirby, informing Voight that he used his girl's pink stiletto knife when Kirby attacked him. Voight recognizes the wounds and takes photos of the man's injured arm as he tells them about the vehicle Kirby fled in. Voight returns to the station, where he confirms his suspicions that knife wounds from the man match those on the body of Shari's friend. He calls the medical examiner and asks them to run a test to see if Kirby's and Shari's DNA is present, suspecting that Kirby might not have been Lila's killer.
He calls Imani, who is in the car with Shari and he questions why they're driving and not at the safe house. Imani informs him that they're on the way to her house so she can show her the things from their past to help jog her memory as Voight asks her to please bring her to the district. Voight again presses her to bring Shari in, but she hangs up as she tells him she'll bring him in after first showing him the things from their past.
At her apartment, Imani shows Shari old photos and keepsakes, including photos of their dad and them as kids. She shows her newspaper clippings about her abduction and walks her through the events of her disappearance and how their parents searched everywhere for her. While their parents have both passed, Imani assures Shari she never stopped looking for her. That's when Shari reveals that she knows where Kirby would go, as he'd never leave without her. She agrees to take Imani to him, but only if it's just the two of them.
Shari leads Imani to the location they were supposed to meet and informs her they were meant to meet in the basement. Imani leaves Shari behind in the car as she heads in to search the building for Kirby. Once inside, Imani hears the door behind her open as Shari enters the room. That's when Kirby gets the jump on Imani, hitting her over the head as she falls to the ground. Kirby orders Shari to cuff Imani as he locks the door.
Intelligence arrives having tracked Imani's phone and begins searching the building. Down in the basement, Kirby orders Shari to take care of Imani like she took care of her friend. Shari fires off a shot, but Imani is able to knock the gun away and avoid the bullet as she wrestles Shari to the ground. Kirby and Shari get away as Torres finds Imani and frees her from the cuffs. As they flee, Kirby and Shari run into Voight, who disarms Kirby and then proceeds to bash his head in with the door.
When officers arrive to take the team's statements, Imani tells them it was Kirby who attacked her and fired off the gun. After giving her statement, Imani finds Shari has slit her wrists while in cuffs and place her in the back of the police car as Ruzek and Burgess drive the pair to the hospital. It seems as though Shari will not pull through, but they're able to get her to the hospital in time to save her life.
As the episode comes to an end, Imani meets Voight in a secluded area. Imani mentions Shari's comment about how killing her would be just like Lila as Voight confirms that there were no DNA transfers from Kirby; it was Shari who killed Lila. Imani questions whether the findings were on paper as she questions whether her sister is going to be charged with murder. We don't get an answer to the question as the season comes to a close before Voight responds to the question.
