It seems having to decide what to do about Imani’s sister won’t be the only uncomfortable situation Voight will have to face when Chicago PD kicks off its 14th season this October!
Fans will recall that season 13 ended with Voight discovering that Imani’s sister wasn’t just a victim but rather was responsible for the murder of the young woman that ultimately led them to finding Shari. In the closing moments of the finale, Voight shared the findings with Imani, ending with the cliffhanger that left fans to wonder whether Voight will arrest Shari for her crimes or cover up the crime so that Imani doesn’t lose her sister again after finally being reunited years after Shari was abducted as a child.
Voight has a big decision ahead of him, and he’s once again found himself forced to make a decision that could have major repercussions for someone on his team. This decision is something fans have been talking about all summer long and will play a big role in the season 14 premiere, but making that decision isn’t the only thing Voight will be forced to do in the premiere.
NBC has dropped the premiere synopsis for the first episode of Chicago PD season 14 which teases that Voight will be forced to allow an outside visitor into the bullpen. No further context is provided regarding why he’s forced to welcome this outsider into the bullpen or who this person might be, but the framing of the wording suggests this isn’t exactly someone Voight will want in the bullpen with his team.
So who might this mystery outsider end up being? Well, our first guess would be that perhaps Voight is forced to allow someone from Internal Affairs into the bullpen to monitor the team after all that went down with Imani’s sister. We’ve seen the Intelligence Unit come under fire before, and we could see a higher-up sending someone from IA down to check on the team and make sure they’re following the letter of the law.
Then there is the possibility that this person could be someone from the media who is doing a story on a case or perhaps a broader story about the Chicago Police Department. If the team is working a high-profile case, it wouldn’t be out of the question for a journalist to be sent to the station to observe the Intelligence Unit for their story, and we know Voight isn’t the biggest fan of press.
Of course, there is also the possibility that this person might be an officer from another department who pushes their way into the investigation at the heart of the premiere. The premiere will see the team working to investigate the shooting of a parole officer, so perhaps a fellow patrol officer will insert themselves into the investigation or another law enforcement agent with Voight being forced to allow them into the bullpen to work the case.
Voight isn’t known to play well with outsiders, so whoever this person ends up being, it’ll be interesting to see how Voight handles having this person thrust upon him. We’ll find out who this mystery individual ends up being soon as the Chicago PD season 14 premiere is just days away, with the season kicking off on Wednesday, October 7, at 10/9c on NBC!
