Dean’s life is on the line in the Chicago Med season 11 finale

Chicago Med showrunner Allen MacDonald hinted that Dean's fate could be called into question in the season 11 finale as Asher goes into labor with their daughter.

Going into the Chicago Med season 11 finale, all bets are off on what could happen. Following the season's penultimate episode, which teed up a number of high-stakes situations that could be life or death, fans are riding high on speculation that one of our favorite characters might not make it to see season 12. However, more than one character's life might be on the line.

Before the season 11 finale, the Gaffney ED went into lockdown due to a Code Silver, meaning one of the prisoners who was being treated in the emergency department escaped somewhere in the hospital. Because of this tense situation, Asher ended up locked in a room with a patient in active labor while she herself ended up going into labor. And as the preview teased, Dean is in danger.

In an interview with Give Me My Remote ahead of the Chicago Med season 11 finale, showrunner Allen MacDonald addressed the fact that Dean's being held at gunpoint in the teaser trailer and casts doubt on his fate. We have spent all season worrying about Asher and the baby that we didn't even imagine that Dean could be in danger in this situation, but that's what the boss now hints.

Chicago Med season 11 finale puts Dean in serious danger

As MacDonald said the Give Me My Remote, "It is true that Dr. Archer suddenly disappears at a certain point, and the question becomes, will he be around to witness the birth of his child? Not only that, will he get to meet his child… ever?" That's a scary thought to consider, that Dean could end up being a potentially major character death in the season 11 finale and never meet his daughter.

Obviously, the showrunner's tease isn't a confirmation that something will happen to Dean during the Code Silver, but MacDonald continued to work us up with another chilling tease: "That tension that was so beautifully built in the previous episode… continues as we go into the next episode. So, the hospital is still on lockdown, that person’s still loose, that tension is still in the air. And, you know, our stories are being told under that pressure cooker."

Dean being in possible life-threatening danger while Asher's in labor and unable to get to her truly raises the stakes on the finale episode. The biggest worry that fans have had during this season of Chicago Med is Asher carrying her full pregnancy without incident to either her or the baby. Since her mother died during childbirth, she has been fearing that could be her fate, too.

MacDonald once again alluded to those fears, which he has been teasing all season long. Since her pregnancy was revealed in the previous season's finale, the showrunner has suggested that something could happen to the baby. During his pre-finale interview, he circled back and reminded fans that "maybe [the baby] won't be" born safely. Clearly, something will happen.

With all of the heavy-handed suggestions that either Dead, Asher, or their baby will have some sort of complications in the Chicago Med season 11, we should brace for impact. We have recently been safe from a major character death in the medical drama, but that streak of luck could end in the season 11 finale. We're hoping it won't be, but you can never predict what might happen in One Chicago.
