Even though Chicago Med has featured several popular characters, one of them has often been cited as the show's most popular figure, Dr. Daniel Charles. In fact, the character is so compelling that many fans love him enough that they want Dr. Charles' daughters to be brought back to the show. Despite how great he is, it has recently felt like Oliver Platt's character could be leaving the show at some point in the near future.
If Dr. Charles does leave Chicago Med, he would leave behind a huge hole in the show's storylines. More importantly, the characters' absence would certainly leave the medical drama's fans missing him and feeling extremely disappointed. That said, there is one actor that the team behind Chicago Med could hire who could almost certainly effectively replace Dr. Charles if Platt does exit.

Why Sean Astin could replace Chicago Med's Oliver Platt
There are several reasons why Chicago Med's Dr. Daniel Charles is such a special character that the show's fans adore him. First off, in almost every interaction, Dr. Charles behaves with empathy for everyone involved, including patients, friends, co-workers, and strangers. Secondly, Dr. Charles is such a lovable character that viewers only want the best for him. If that wasn't enough, Oliver Platt's performance as the character makes Dr. Charles someone who steals attention whenever he is onscreen.
Given all those factors and the other reasons why fans love Dr. Charles, he would be very hard to replace if the character ever leaves. For example, even though it feels like the show may have recently introduced a new character to take Dr. Charles' spot, Dr. Theo Rabari, it is hard to imagine him meaning as much to viewers. That said, there is one actor who has all of the attributes that would be required to feel like the character he would portray could replace Dr. Charles, Sean Astin.
Arguably one of the most likable actors in Hollywood history, Astin carries himself with a subtle enthusiasm that makes viewers care about virtually every character he has ever played. During the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it was Astin's character that many viewers grew to love the most. Even though Astin only appeared in a handful of Stranger Things episodes, many of that hit show's fans still wish they got to see more of his character years later. Of course, Astin's roles in movies like The Goonies and Rudy have also gone down in Hollywood history.
Given Astin's long history of making lasting impacts on pop culture simply because fans have invested so much in his characters, he almost seems destined to portray a character who could take Dr. Charles' place. Hopefully, the team behind Chicago Med will be able to make that happen if Oliver Platt ever leaves the show.
